Hands Behind His Back - Mr Spock

ticktock

Lieutenant Junior Grade
You may recall that Mr Spock often when standing straight had his hands behind his back. This gave him a highly dignified, confident and composed look.

This mannerism which you may have noticed gave Mr Spock a certain look.
A look of royalty almost as I notice certain royal folk also do it.

I myself also do it.It makes me feel confident, almost regal.

What I want to say is would the new Mr Spock played by Quinto do it in the new film and would you prefer he does it?

Furthermore have you done it or caught yourself doing it and how does it feel doing it?

If you did catch yourself doing it did it remind you of Mr Spock and has anyone commented on it?

I've only done it occasionally, and then usually while walking. I can't say it makes me feel terribly regal. Oddly enough, however, the last time I did, some odd-looking grizzled man called over to me from across the street, wanting to know where I learned to walk like that. I told him it was just something I did, and he responded by saying that it's a "powerful pose" used by British Royalty. He was wearing a nehru jacket at the time, though, so I just figured he was insane.

That changed for me when I found out Nimoy was usually hiding a lollipop back there! ;)

I usually do it at work when the supervisor has announced she has something she wants all of us to pay attention to. As a sign of respect. <shrug> I hadn't really connected it to Leonard Nimoy's characterization of Mr. Spock or the British Royal family...I'm definitely *not* a 'royal watcher', although I think the young princes are quite handsome.

If you recall in DS9, Dax seemed to have a preference for the hands behind the back posture. I remember reading in an interview, circa season 1, that such a posture was deliberate in order to convey the serenity her character was to embody.
