Hand injury

So, I got back from a great week in San Diego. I went out there with my team from work to meet the company, but it was hardly a work-related trip. It was two days of presentations and then two days of just fun playing Frisbee golf and an outdoor scavenger hunt in the park near the San Diego Zoo.

While I was there, I sort of hurt myself during the scavenger hunt. While running towards one of the many museums located in the park, I fell onto the pavement and landed on my right hand - skinning it and breaking my cell phone in the process. I had basically been running and jumped off the edge of a wall and didn't realize how high up it actually was and came crashing down on the pavement.

Even after the fall, I got right back up and kept running, despite having blood dripping from the palm of my hand. Once the adrenaline wore off, the pain started to set in - which was to be expected.

After almost two weeks, the back of my hand is still in some pain. Normally, my hand is fine, but if I put any kind of weight on it or squeeze it into a fist, there's pain. I'm debating if I should have it checked out or not. Immediately after falling, the pain was almost unbearable, but it has gotten better and now, again, only hurts when some weight is put on it.

Initially, I thought I might have fractured it, but now I'm not so sure. Personally, I think I ended up bruising my hand bones. My hand never, at any point, swelled up or developed any kind of exterior bruises. Moving my fingers around doesn't cause any pain - just when weight is put on it.

If the pain persists over the course of the next few weeks, I'm going to have it checked out, but I think I just bruised it internally and I've read that a "bruised bone" can take long periods of time to heal.

What do you guys think?

I don't believe in dishing out specific and personal (and therefore confidential) medical advice over a public internet forum, except to get it seen by your own doctor.

Yeah, it's already been a couple of weeks. Talk to your doctor. You don't want a long-term injury in your hand plaguing you for the rest of your life.

Just going to echo what everyone else is saying, except a bit more forcefully: Quit using Google searches and Star Trek message boards to self-diagnose yourself, get in your car, and go see a friggin' doctor.

WTF?

None of us are experts in medicine, and even if we were, we would not be able to tell what is actually wrong without physically examining your hand.

Let me put this to you clearly....

You should have gone to your doctor two weeks AGO. Get off your butt, get in your car, and go see your doctor. It's possible (and I think probable) that you have broken a bone in your hand and/or done other damage to it.

In 2003, I dropped a trailer onto my hand and broke more than one bone in it. I never had any pain, just a little bit of blood. Get this checked out now!

It's bad, isn't it, that I was expecting something quite different and more... Jayson from that thread title.

UPDATE -

I did go to the doctor. No breaks or fractures. As I suspected, my hand had some internal bruising. She told me that it is going to take a few weeks to fully heal, but I'll be just fine. The pain has gone down considerably.
