Halo: "In Death's Grey Land"

Hey folks,

Lo, it has been many moons since I last posted here. Too long, in fact. I just wanted to let you guys know that my efforts at writing fan fiction did not die with the last bundle of crap I wrote...I think that was two years ago. Maybe. In any case, I've been working on a Halo fan fiction story arc for at least that long, and it is now coming to fruition.

--------------------------------------

"In Death's Grey Land" is a story about the last surviving Spartan-I supersoldier, a relic of Project ORION who's augmentations and service record served as a stepping stone for the infamous SPARTAN-II program (Master Chief John-117 was a product of that second generation). Marine Captain Richard Brade, codenamed 'LEONIDAS,' is dying slowly as his augmentations begin to turn on him.

But he's not about to go out quietly.

Along with Maria-062 (a SPARTAN-II who 'retired' to start a family), a squad of elite Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (also known as "Helljumpers"), two Office of Naval Intelligence spooks, and a pair of brilliant smart AIs, this last member of a doomed unit must break through the Covenant fleet assaulting Earth, land on the lunar surface, and stop the Covenant special forces from unleashing an unspeakable horror on the inhabitants of Luna. Before his time runs out.

--------------------------------------

I've broken IDGL into 'sections' (just like the published Halo novels) due to its length. And believe me when I say it is no short read. Currently, the word count stands at nearly 40k, and there are still two more sections to go. If you would like to read Sections I-III individually, they are available here. If you would rather tackle the story in its entirety, good luck to you.

Please feel free to post comments, questions, insults, etc. on this thread. I'd be happy to address any and all issues.

My thanks to any and all readers, in advance.

Believe it or not, this isn't a necro post. I completed "In Death's Grey Land" in August and am just getting around to updating this thread.

You can read the story at scribd.com or over at Halo.Bungie.Org. The story is split into five sections, not including the prologue and epilogue. Total word length stands at around 66k, so it's not a short read by any means.

Let me know what you think.

Don't worry - we're necrophiliacs when it comes to threads about stories that have been long in the gestation. ;)
