Half in the Bag does Jack an Jill

So...Adam Sandler makes dopey comedies. Dopey comedies are a staple going back to, at least, the Three Stooges. Why does everyone single HIM out and, not say, Will Ferrell?

Because more often than not Will Ferrell's comedies are funny? Where as Sandler's movies aren't?

The Three Stooges is high art compared to Sandler's dumb movies. It's all the more disappointing because he has shown he can do real movies. In one of them, Funny People, he even played a version of himself that was depressed because his career was a joke filled with stupid movies, it was very self-aware, and yet he's doing it again.

I imagine he does these things because they make money and he enjoys it, not because they're supposed to be high art or smash box office records or garner lots of acclaim.

That's really a matter of taste. But since Sandler's comedies make at least as much as Ferrell's on average, a lot of people seem to find Sandler at least as funny as Ferrell.

I find them equally unfunny. Though Will Ferrell's actually got a few good movies to his credit, and it's when he ventures outside his comfort zone that he's better, like in Stranger Than Fiction. Adam Sandler has nothing of the sort and he always seems to fall back on the same type of role. He's his own boss when making movies with his production company, so there likely isn't anyone to tell him what to do and what not to do.

Punch-Drunk Love was a pretty interesting role for Adam Sandler, not his standard stuff.

Sandler might actually have more dramatic turns than Ferrel. He's done Spanglish, Punch Drunk Love, Funny People, and not that this is a good movie and not that it's not filled with goofiness, but Click.
