Hair pieces.

Jeri is a beautiful woman who did not require all the garbage they stuck onto her to make her sexy. Such obvious appeal to hormones is embarrassing for everyone who's had sex at least once in their lives. (You know, the ones with an imagination.)

If Jeri was not receiving adequate blood to her brain that might explain her accceptance of such foolishness. Or maybe she really needed the work. I'm sure she's glad she's past all that!

It was the Borg costume that was a problem, not the catsuit. And it was a design defect.

So, it wasn't the costume that women hate. It was the one that "uglified" her.

The argument is that she was unprofessional for pointing out there was an issue.

The argument was that it was wrong of her to complain--because it's an actor's job to wear what they put her in.

Of course, Kate's complaints about the endless fussing with her hair and the infamous "Star Trek" bra were different. That was a blow struck for females everywhere.

As for Jeri's "foolishness" for accepting the part--one of her long-time peeves is that people consider her unintelligent simply because she looks the way she does. She only auditioned after being assured that Seven wouldn't be a bimbo. She found the corset uncomfortable (and yes, is glad she's past wearing it), but never pitched a hissy about it. And perhaps it's time that women realized that intelligent women come in all shapes, sizes and packaging--including those who look like Seven.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to say Jeri was foolish. I said she had to go along with foolishness for one reason or another. It was a poorly worded joke.

It was the "maybe she needed the work" that seemed to make it her fault for "putting up with such foolishness."

Frankly, I found her a breath of fresh air, after years of this insistence that women have to fall into a certain body type and style to be taken seriously by other women.

I liked her well enough and did not mean to infer she was, is or will be in any way diminished for having had to put up with dangerous working conditions. I am sorry if you thought I was blaming the victim.

I think a lot of women actors find they have to put up with foolishness to work in Hollywood as producers and financers have the last word and often tend to be men.

I don't know, I think I'm with Teya. I kind of liked that there were some gorgeous women in Trek who were also incredibly intelligent, and Seven was one of those. As a woman myself, I never liked the intimation that you can be beautiful or you can be a genius, but you can't be both.

I admit never did understand the heels, though -- you'd think Seven (the character) would have objected to those as a safety hazard, or a drain on her efficiency at the very least.

As a woman myself I agree with you both and I thought I was saying that. I was making a joke at someone's expense who was not here to defend herself and I apologize for that. I'll keep my day job as writing is evidently not an efficient medium for me to communicate with.

Having read one of your fanfic pieces, I have to disagree. You are a very good writer!

I think it's just harder to convey meaning in these little one-off comments. I, for one, wasn't upset about what you said; I just wanted to highlight my agreement with Teya regarding the second part of her post, because it's an underrepresented opinion around here, that Seven's appearance and the catsuit she wore were perfectly fine. I'm glad you agree, as well, and I wasn't trying to imply you thought anything different.

Actually, most of the grief aimed at Jeri for wearing the catsuit or complaining about the Borg suit's malfunction came from *women*. But maybe such grief isn't foolishness. After all, Kate Mulgrew herself said that professionals don't complain about costumes--and she was referring to the costume that put Jeri's life at risk when she said that.

However, Mulgrew herself has boasted about complaining about the Trek bra and the fussing they did with her hair.

So, according to Mulgrew, it's okay to bitch when you think TPTB are demeaning you for asking you to wear a padded bra.

It's not okay to bitch when you're a young blonde who's passing out on set because the neck on the costume is blocking blood to your brain.

Maybe someone can explain the logic of that to me.

Just read it - thanks so much! You're quite the pot stirrer! It's great to see such an underutilized character see action and I like the characters you're introducing. The enigmatic admiral seems to bear watching! Happy Friday! :rommie:

I prefered Kates Hair in the later season's,I think they had to give Janeway a very serious look as in season 1 but Kate's hair natural she looked like a younger captain not I AM IN COMMAND Captain as she was in the first 3 seasons. I think to be honest I am glad Kate's hair was left a lone from season 4 onwards as it showed Janeway had lowered her guard and was letting her self in a caring motherly figar as the ship had become home.

I'm sure someone will try, but I think we'll all be waiting a while for a satisfactory b(to both parties) explanation, because there is none.
