Well, I saw the movie, and I was right!

It really was "Doogie Howser MD in Space" or, as someone else more aply put it, "90210 in Space".

As someone who really served in the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, let me assure you that none of us would've ever been allowed to steer an aircraft carrier, let alone command it!

:techman:

These people were *WAY* too young. If memory serves me, Kirk didn't get Captain until he was 35. This Kirk got it at 20!

Pavel Checkov was 17!!

Now how many of you are willing to admit I was right when I said they would be straight out of the academy & way too young?

.....I eagery await your replies!

I'm reminded more of "Young Sherlock Holmes".

I mean really. Having Kirk, Spock, and McCoy all meeting for their first big adventure in the same movie was one thing.

Did they have to have Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov?

err... kirk was 25, did you watch the film? Even in Tos kirk mentioned he was 34, this had been after he was in command for a few years.

Also in this timeline Kirk went to the accademy later then he did in TOS because he had no father that inspired him to join starfleet

I don't even know who you are.

That said, yeah, it was a little goofy that these characters were as young as they were.

JJ didn't just take "liberties" with ST Cannon, he OBLITERATED the cannon!!

To the best of my knowledge, Spock was the only one aboard the Enterprise when Pike was Captain!

Yeah, some of the ages and experience levels of the characters strained credibility a little.

On the other hand, the Enterprise isn't real so there's no danger of Sulu accidentally crashing it into my home town. So it doesn't really bother me that much.

What canon?
There is no previously established canon in this universe or timeline.

Incarceration is not comparable with watching a movie, and you have no business discussing the quality of a movie you have never actually seen.

Agreed. Moreover, they seemed to make the characters much more proficient in their respective fields. I mean, who knew Uhura was so talented?!? ;)

Okay. You were right.

Doesn't matter, because the truly moronic among us are lining up to drink JJ's bathwater again. One review I read gave it five stars. Out of five.

Apparently, people want 90210 In Space.

I love it when Trekkies think they know everything but don't even realize everything from this new timeline fits logically and with canon (there's logical reason why certain things are different, but everything prior to the Kelvin is the same).

And why the Enterprise and the other 6 ships were filled with cadets (including 17 year olds) from the Academy during the Vulcan crisis, it was all explained in the film.

So if I Google "Capt. Christopher Pike - USS Enterprise" I won't find anything?

:guffaw:

Yeah. You'll find information about two guys named Chris Pike, actually. Only one of those guys is germane to this discussion. And we don't know a whole lot about him yet.
