Guitars N' Music

Fleet Captain
I like Guns N' Roses (Hence the N' in the thread's title.)
But I like a lot of different music too, from Pop to Rock to Classical to Hip Hop and what ever I like, be it from which ever genre.

My favourite guitarists are:

Jimi Hendrix

Carlos Santana

Favorite Guitarists:

Ritchie Blackmore
Michael Schenker
Yngwie Malmsteen
Randy Rhoads (too short a time on this Earth)
Eric Clapton
Santana

My favorites (none in any particular order)

Lead Guitarists:
Allan Holdsworth
The Edge
Vernon Reid
"Boon" Gould

Rhythm Guitarists:
Roland Orzabal
Bono
Bruce Springsteen
Jonatha Brooke

Bass Guitarists:
Mark King
Stanley Clarke
Muzz Skillings
Adam Clayton

My 3 favourite guitarists are in no particular order:

Brian May of Queen

This man revolutionised what you can do with a guitar, a multi-track and a lot of patience, anyone who has heard his trumpet-guitar sounds can attest to this.

Dean Deleo of Stone Temple Pilots

The most creative mainstream rock guitarist of the last 20 years in my opinon, an instantly recognisable style, melding jazz and metal into a very unique sound.

Ry Cooder

This man has brought music from around the world to the masses, but is also one of the greatest slide players of all time, and can rock out pretty good when he wants to too. The video below is from the movie Crossroads. Ry is playing all the parts that Ralph Macchio appears to be playing up until the classical duel at the end. Steve Vai (the other parts) is not bad either!

Matthew Bellamy (Muse)
Django Reinhardt

Jim Martin (Faith No More)

That is gorgeous. How much, if it is not rude question?

My favourite guitarists (in no particular order)-

John Petrucci - Dream Theater
Eddie Van Halen - Van Halen
Bruce Kulick - KISS
Tony Iommi - Black Sabbath
Randy Rhoads - Ozzy
Neal Schon - Journey
Zakk Wylde - Ozzy (before he got obsessed with squeals)
Mick Mars - Motley Crue
Michael Amott/Chris Amott - Arch Enemy

Honorable mentions to mention some rhythm guitarists-
James Hetfield
Paul Stanley
Malcolm Young

^^ Neal Schon is another highly underrated guitarist, shadowed by the poppy drama that became Journey.. Their early, pre-Steve Perry work is some of the best old-school Prog out there..

Alex Lifeson

Greatest. Instrumental. Ever. Never fails to bring a tear to the eye when I see or hear this live.

Lifeson is an underappreciated and underrated master of his craft. No one can touch him when it comes to raw emotion and power. Sure, there are faster players.. Maybe some more melodic in their styles... But he is a true master.

As for the rest of my list, just off the top of my head...

Steve Rothery - Marillion
Steve Howe - Ummmm... Every super group since the 1970's...
Pat Metheny - Jazz great
Eric Johnson - great pop/rock soloist.

I'll take melodic rock over anything proggy any damn day :techman:

Because Journey is more pop oriented, Schon's guitar work is understated and often underrated, but he's an awesome guitarist.
Here's what I consider one of his best songs for leads. Nothing overly flashy and show off, but it shows his style well.

Alex Lifeson
awesome.
have you seen the new AT&T commercial, major Rush reference

Yes I have. Very cool.

:techman:

Others that need mentioning:

David Gilmour

And Mark Knopfler. He can say more in one note than Eddie Van Halen can say in 5 minutes of shredding.

Ack! Good call on Knopfler... Can't believe I forgot him...

Love the commercial. First time I've seen that... Personally, I'm still waiting for the officially sanctioned "Rash" t-shirt.. Plenty of knock-offs on line, but it's not the same...
