Guilty pleasure flicks

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
as promised, here it is, a thread about the movies you're ashamed to admit you love or at least like or can tolerate for nostalgia's sake on a rainy weekend afternoon.

Here are a few of mine:

Tank Girl (shut up, who asked you?)
Howard the Duck
The Core
Armageddon
Ghoulies

sci fi or not...

Correction... sci-fi.

Lost In Space. So stupid and poorly paced, but I love it anyway. The production design; Oldman underplaying Dr. Smith, the half-man half-spider thing Smith becomes at the end...

another vote for lost in space, i remember i saw it on opening day with my parents and LOVED it. i was obsessed with the old tv show. also Armageddon, and too many 1950's b movies to count

I added a new addition to this list over the weekend: Wanted. Not very smart but oh so fun. I love the keyboard keys spelling out "fuck you" even though there's only one U on a keyboard. The whole thing is just shameless fun. Others you'll all know: -Pitch Black -Split Second (Rutger Hauer hopped up on chocolate and caffeine, hearts ripped from chests, and speaking of chests, Kim Cattral's tits!) -The Lost in Space remake

Judge Dredd!

" - You could have jumped out the window
- But that is 40 stories down - that would be suicide!
- Yes, but it's legal. "

Agreed. Yeah the plot got a little muddled at the end with all the weird time travel, but in the end it certainly wasn't any worse than the TV series.

The new robot was damn cool too.

DOOM

it's good! watch it! at the very least, you'll get a laugh. maybe you'll even be scared. I love the extended FPS shots -- haha so cool, albeit cheesy, esp to the average movie-goer. the dvd commentary is cool as well... and nostalgic

And if you're still not sold, it has Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy) and The Rock (Tsunkatse fighter) !

-Wing Commander
-Starship Troopers
-Demolition Man
-Masters of the Universe
-Doom
-Ang Lee's Hulk
-Tank Girl
-Super Mario Brothers
-Howard The Duck
-Deep Impact
-Independence Day
-Armageddon
-Soldier

I love The Last Mimzy - why should you be ashamed of that one? It's a good kid's flick.

While there are parts that make me cringe and I know it's crap overall - I love to put Armaggedon on in the background when I clean the house.

The Fifth Element is also bizarrely entertaining. ("Multi-pass" :guffaw:)

Some may not count them as sci-fi but I think they're a couple of the cheesy-best superhero movies made in the last decade or so - The Charlie's Angels flicks. Awful, awful stories, but oh so fun.

But the best of the worst is the ever-fantastic Deep Blue Sea. How can you not love a movie where the reveal about the killer sharks is given in this line by the mad scientist:

"We made their brains bigger and as a side effect they got smarter."
