It's kind of a shame that she never guest starred on TOS, even as a serious character.

Perhaps she thought it improper to pull rank in the casting process.
Most she could have managed (given that she was working on The Lucy Show and running Desilu) was a one-minute cameo as a Starfleet Admiral on a viewscreen, and that would have taken everyone watching at home right out of the episode.
Gale Gordon as Commander Mooney:
"Now, Ensign Ricardo . . . remember that you are a key player in the photon torpedo assembly line during combat. Have you any questions?"

Side note: Lucy gets a new statue in her home town, replacing "Scary Lucy."

A TOS cameo would have been both awesome and bizarre at the same time.
That new statue is great, Lucy at the peak of her popularity in the 1950's. The older one needs to be melted down.

Wow that first statue was bad.
Lucy could have played Mudd's wife in I Mudd which was only a small but important role for the episode and she wouldn't have distracted from the show.
Lucy probably would have cast Desi as a redshirt if it were left up to her.
