Reiter originally developed The Firm for CBS a couple of years ago when the project didn’t go to pilot. He has since written a new version of the script, which is being targeted primarily for cable.

Grisham has been very involved in the project, which has been pitched to a number of cable networks, including FX, TNT and A&E, as well as to NBC and Fox. There is already interest from at least one cable net. Reiter and Grisham are executive producing.

expect it to have nothing to do with the actors from The Firm (1993).

political thriller series. I heard of a couple of other pilots in this genre this year.

I read the IMDb summary of the film. A series based on this would be kinda like Alias with lawyers, I guess.

Considerin' the movie's cast included Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman & Ed Harris, is that disclaimer really necessary?

And aside from M*A*S*H, can ya think of any other shows that included actors from the film in the tv adaption?

All that said, I'll probably watch it, since I liked the book & went to the theater to see the movie way back when it came out almost twenty years ago.

This would be the third Grisham novel to be attempted as a TV series. The Client lasted one season and The Street Lawyer never got picked up.

The Firm is still one of my favorite Grisham novels. The general premise (mob's law firm) and the bright young lawyer who slowly comes to learn the truth behind his/her dream job could work in a series format. As with anything else, it'd be all in the execution, but I'm intrigued by the idea. Bring it, and let's see what happens. :)

Stargate SG-1: Erick Avari and Alexis Cruz.
The Paper Chase: John Houseman.
The Odd Couple: Monica Evans and Carole Shelley.
Planet of the Apes: Roddy MacDowall (as a different character).
War of the Worlds: The Series: Ann Robinson (recurring).
Tremors: Michael Gross and Marcia Strassman.
Police Academy: The Series: Michael Winslow.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures (first season): Voices of Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, George Carlin, and Bernie Casey.
Men in Black: The Series: Voices of Tony Shalhoub (initially) and Vincent D'Onofrio.
Godzilla: The Series (from the same production company, adapting the Emmerich film): Voices of Kevin Dunn and Malcolm Danare.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Voice of John Astin (star of the direct-to-video sequels, though not in the original film).
Back to the Future: The Series: Christopher Lloyd in live-action host segments, voices of Thomas F. Wilson and Mary Steenburgen in animated segments.

Not to mention various Disney animated shows featuring many or most of the same cast members as the films they were based on.

A bit more indirectly, Michael Clarke Duncan, who played the Kingpin in the Daredevil feature film, reprised the role in the CG-animated Spider-Man on MTV.

Indeed. For myself, I loved the book, enjoyed the movie so I'd like to see how this goes:)

Well, besides all that!

A year later...

NBC is in discussions to pick up a 22-episode series based on the 1991 book “The Firm,” produced by eOne Television in association with Sony Pictures Television's Networks Group and Paramount Pictures, the article notes.

The [2 hour] pilot picks up 10 years after where the movie ends, with the hero having just left the Federal Witness Protection Program and finding that his life is still in danger.

EOne already has sold The Firm in more than 125 territories worldwide, where it will air on SPT's AXN Networks.
Casting is under way. The project is expected to go into production in Canada in July.
according to The Hollywood Reporter.

development takes a long time. It was developed at CBS 3 years ago and rewrites since.

Someone was wearing their Bad Idea Jeans when they developed this... Oh, NBC is interested? Never mind then.

Del Monroe played Kowlaski in both the movie and TV versions og VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.

But OT: yeah, this show doesn't sound all that interesting.

So, obviously pretty high production value, reasonably well-known cast (Juliette Lewis, Tricia Helfer/Number Six and Callum Keith Rennie/Leoben from BSG and a couple others with long imdb lists) and the result is a completely cookie-cutter, boring to death, predictable as shit lawyer show. It would be almost impossible for me to be less impressed. No idea why I thought this could be a decent show.
