Green Hornet now has its Kato and director

The Seth Rogan starring film for a 2010 release date based on the 60's TV series now has its Kato and director all in the same man, Stephen Chow.

Rogan plays the Green Hornet a role most see as an odd choice but it wouldn't be the first time fans have been wrong about a casting choice(although we did get Jack Black as Green Lantern right). Chow will play Kato who is the real strength of the outfit. Rogan only has to not play it campy, some humor is fine, for it to work imo.

Stephen Chow, one of Asia's most popular box-office draws as the award-winning star and director of such films as Kung Fu Hustle, CJ7, and Shaolin Soccer, will direct Seth Rogen and star opposite him as Kato in Columbia Pictures' The Green Hornet, set for release June 25, 2010, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures. The screenplay is by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, who will also executive produce. Neal H. Moritz is the producer through his Original Film production company.

So is Rogan going to buff up or stay the Pillsbury doughboy and that'll be the whole joke? (So to speak)

Seth Rogan as Green Hornet is far, far, far away from the days of George Clooney and Greg Kinnear.

Seth Rogan???? Ickkkkk.

He looks like his main adventure will be riding around looking for Krispy Kremes and Duncan Doughnuts....

My how things have deteriorated from Van Willams and Bruce Lee as Kato.

(I'm old enough to remeber the 1966 TV series.)

...another useless pathetic remake. Blink and it'll go right to DVD and the FX network.

I've yet to see a linked quote but it is mentioned about the 'net that he is going to be slimming down some. I take it as pure rumor for now but if its true then I'll be happy with him as thinner, or at least not obviously plump. Afterall Kato is the real muscle.

Good choice for Kato...I like Stephen Chow. One of the more underrated Asian actors here.

Kung Fu Hustle wasn't just funny it was fun as well.

Will audiences laugh out loud when they see Seth Rogen wearing the mask and fedora? It could happen...

I think they may want to update the look some. Their "costumes" were anything but.

A trenchcoat and a fedora along with a cliche butler outfit was proto-realism I suppose.

There's been some confusion. Rogan signed on in the belief Green Hornet is a movie about a type of particularly strong weed.

Interesting choice for the lead though. I know nothing about Green Hornet other than an appearance on the Batman spoof. I'm really curious what tone this movie will take. Some humor must be a given I would think.

That Green Hornet had Bruce Lee, which was probably the best reason for watching.

Well, the Black Beauty was nice, too, and the Billy May arrangement of the theme was cool.

Edit:

Heh.
