Great ships to come out of TNG

Arpy

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Galaxy Class Explorer
Vor'cha Class Attack Cruiser
D'deridex Class Warbird
D'kora Class Marauder
Galor Class Destroyer
Original Borg Cube

Each one of them is an instant classic in my book. The original Cube too I found much more terrifying than the aztec-ed green-highlit FC version, with its massive Deathstar-reactor-core-like spindle and bug queen.

The Romulan Warbird was one of the best designs in the franchise. The original Borg Cube was so cool and unique it became recognizable in the general pop culture.

Since others have already listed the Romulan D'deridex, which I love, I'll add the Valdore-class from Nemesis. They were the best thing about the movie - possibly, the ONLY good thing about the movie. ;)

sorry for offtopic, actually I'm opposite-topic, but I just dislike seeing excelsiors, mirandas and oberths in the 24th century.

edit: And birds of prey. And those 2 or 3 ocasional Ktingas.

IIRC, the original concept for the D'deridex class was supposed to be vertical. I would have liked to see that!

The new classes (Akira, Steamrunner, Norway, Saber) from ST:FC

I actually hate those ships with a passion. But to each his own.

The REAL version of the Ambassador class (not the hastily-thrown-together-at-the-last-minute hack job that appeared in "Yesterday's Enterprise")

At the risk of starting up a flame war like what happened years ago with a former bonkers member here, the "hastily-thrown-together-at-the-last-minute hack job" IS the real Ambassador class. And the Sternbach/Jein model was hardly that. Yes, certain changes from the original Probert design were warranted because of time and budget, but the resulting model was still a beautiful ship.

Heartily agreed. Unfortunately, the reason why we saw all those movie models (and stock footage of movie models) was because TNG's producers didn't want to spend any more money building new Starfleet & Klingon ships if they didn't have to. Their rationale was that there was no point if the show wasn't popular and got cancelled after its first season, which at the time was a logical business decision.

Probert designed the original (vertical) D'deridex class ship to create a wonderful opposition contrast to the mostly horizontal Galaxy class ship.

The Akira is cool but I agree with Dukhat on the Steamrunner, Norway and Saber. Technically, the Cardassian Galor-Class appeared on TNG before DS9 so it warrants a mention. I also love the Romulan scoutship design from The Defector. And the Borg Cube is just iconic.

Definite points for Galaxy, Ambassador and Nebula classes, too.

For me, TNG was the only Trek spin-off series to feature great designs, a number of which were iconic looks stil lassociated with species today.

Some great designs:
The cross-birdge of history design of the Enterprise C
The Enterprise D
The Romulan warbird.
The Ferengi maurader.
The big Klingon ship that I can't recall the class of.
The original Borg cube.
The nothing more than a kitbash Nebula class.
And even though I don't really care for it, the iconi Cardassian ship.
Even the bulky shuttle that replaced the dildo-ish one from the early seasons.

And I really like the alternat reality Pasteur.

And it doesn't stop there, it also goes to interior designs and equipment like the Type II hand phaser.

the spin-off series, the TNG movies, all poor ships. Though I kind of have a thing for the fake Federation ship, the Dauntless.

I like the Promelian Battlecrusier

The Talarian vessels, modeled after the Britannia from the Lensman series.

I wish they could have done a video showing all the parts--or orthos--before blowing it up.

I agree, although I'd throw the Defiant and the Negh'var in as great post TNG designs along with Deep Space Nine itself.

TNG created iconic ship designs for its major races that really were never matched later on. Probably the D'Deridex and the Borg Cube are the most iconic designs from the TNG era. The new Romulan designs for Nemesis, for example, are just too busy in my opinion, over detailed. TNG did quite simple smooth surfaced ships which relied on iconic shapes and silhouettes to distinguish themselves.
