I LOVED the new film! J.J. and co. did a fantastic job of reintroducing the world to these wonderful characters!
As one of the editors of Star Trek and Philosophy: The Wrath of Kant, my only complaint is that the story didn't have any philosophical depth to it -- other than the temporal metaphysics involved in creating an alternate timeline (something Star Trek's already dealt w/ a number of times, as explored by Amy Kind in one of the chapters of my book).
I think this film did exactly what it needed to do, but I sincerely hope the next film utilizes these now re-established characters in a more thought-provoking dramatic scenario.
