Now that the show has actually aired, but I haven't seen it, was the above speculation more or less accurate?

Somewhat. The majority of the team are wanted fugitives living in hiding and trying to clear their names. Their hideout is actually an unused attic and belfry on the grounds of the lead character's private school. A couple of the other main characters (one regular, one recurring) are his classmates at that school, though the emphasis is more on their home lives and screwed-up families. The remaining young lead, Carrie Kelley/Robin, is a teenager, but there's been no focus on her schooling that I recall, just her attempts to operate as a vigilante under the eye of a sternly protective mother. There's also, of course, an ongoing focus on DA/mayoral candidate Harvey Dent and the legal and political machinations he's involved in.

There was one episode involving some kind of parent-teacher-alumni event, where Stephanie's mom embarrassed her by drinking too much, and Carrie got in trouble because her mom caught her lying about being in school when she actually out being Robin, but . . . that's about it.

Well, that and two characters having sex in the campus library after hours.

Also, I think early on, Turner mentions or remembers that Carrie was in one of his school lab classes.
One common thread is that most of the members of the group are (or are on the way to becoming) orphans. Either literally (Turner, Cullen, Harper) or effectively (Brody, Stephanie, and Duella.)

Glad to see that we did get to see Harvey complete his transformation to Two-Face before the show concluded. A shame we won't get to see what happens next between Two-Face and Duella.

Looks like the second season, if it had happened, would have moved on from the Court of Owls to the League of Assassins . . . and Ra's al Ghul?

I enjoyed this series -- which I started watching more-or-less by accident -- much more than I expected to. I regret its cancellation.

This was a good finale. Nice resolutions for the characters, with Duela's arc -- reconciling with Harvey, Turner convincing the others to have faith in her -- being particularly satisfying.

It was very clearly designed to save budget, though, focusing the action on standing sets like the precinct and the secret floors. This show's makers really knew how to economize, which means it might well have been renewed if The CW weren't in the process of imploding.

I'm wondering if Misha Collins would still have been a regular next season, though. The Two-Face effect, whether makeup or digital, would be pretty expensive to do weekly. I had been wondering, for that reason, if they'd actually go there, and I'm a bit surprised they did. I also didn't think it entirely worked. It's always been implausible that Two-Face could speak normally and make "m," "b," and "p" sounds with his lips only half-closing, but here his lips barely closed at all.

I guess my theories about Turner secretly being Dick or Damien or someone didn't pan out. He doesn't seem to be anyone from the comics. The names on his parents' passports (Emma Brunner and Gabriel Graf) didn't get any hits on the DC Database, though they could've been aliases.

But I guess, despite the cliffhangers with Turner and Two-Face, this still works reasonably well as a series finale, with closure for the main arcs. I regret that it won't continue, since it was much more enjoyable than the scathing reviews suggested, but at least it manages to be satisfying as a one-and-done.

It's a pity this cast doesn't get to continue. I thought they had a great chemistry on screen and really managed to elevate the mediocre and tropey writing..
