Does anyone else create languages? I'm working on my first. It's a sort of "interspecies Esperanto." The goal is to devise a language that a dedicated council of linguists, speech pathologists, poets, authors, etc., would have created for a society consisting of multiple species, a la the United Federation of Planets.
For inspiration I've been surveying a variety of languages, in an effort to make the language something other than a one-for-one substitution of English words and concepts. In addition to English, I've been surveying Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Irish and... Klingon. I know I could get much more exotic, but I thought this effort would suffice for background material for a series of science-fiction stories set in a common fictional universe.
So... does anyone else in this forum do this stuff?
