Google's New Image Search

Does anybody else here royally hate the new way Google has "improved" it's image search page? I have been using it for the past few days, because Google usually comes up with the most results on a search, but ugh... is the new image search annoying as all hell...

The thumbnails are varying sizes, and when you scroll down to look at more results, the page "freezes" until those thumbnails can load, and when you finally do make it to the image source, the actual page is blocked by the image itself in an overlapping window... ugh... just go back to the old way, give me a thumbnail to click, and trust me to find the image on my own in the resulting source page.

I really hope people are complaining to Google about how annoying their new image search is.

You can switch back to the basic version by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

Well slap me with a platypus and call me Aunt Jemima...

I still wish they wouldn't have changed it to begin with... why make it more complicated?

Yeah, not sold on it yet. I like not having to load new pages and I guess its nicer having more images per square unit of screen, but like you said, the thumbnails are all different sizes and rammed right next to each other, so the search results are a big, hard-to-navigate wall of stuff. Plus the old image search returned more results – it would often go up to 50 pages of images or so, but the new one never loads past about 15 for me, even if I click "more results." And that's not an illusion caused by the higher image density of the new page; I did a comparison of the old and new search pages and the old one did indeed give more.

It doesn't remember that setting between sessions, though – at least not when I've tried it.

They changed the image search once before (image data only on mouse-over) and changed it back soon after due to receiving numerous complaints, so let them know how you feel and they may change it.

As it stands, it looks like they're trying to appeal to people who like the somewhat similar page layout of Bing's image search.

Totally... but then again, I would think that it would occur to them that I use Google because it is BETTER than Bing, IMO. Otherwise, I'd be using Bing.

but the new one never loads past about 15 for me, even if I click "more results."
Odd, my test search gave me 25 pages and clicking "more" got me more. And the new search seems to have given me results that I never got before, too. This could be useful, as long as we can switch back and forth between the different searches.

Eh, I can't complain about the new setup. It contributes something positive and doesn't hurt things too much. Sure, it's not what I'm used to, but that's not a big thing.

Of course, I've been trained by facebook to be used to change, so that could be why it doesn't bother me.

I keep getting stuck where it shows pages like 11, 12, 13.... 28, but can't get page 1 unless I switch to basic version.

I'm getting hideous lag with the new setup.

Also, I hate the space-gobbling sidebar. I mostly work from a netbook, and the whole new look's a bit headachey, tbh.
