Google introduces new software to locate friends, find Sarah Connor

Re: Google introduces new software to locate friends, find Sarah Conno

But then it becomes an issue of people wanting to know why you won't turn it on, of jobs starting to require it, etc. Having the technology available means that as it becomes more widespread I'll be 'expected' to have it at some point.

^Tell them you're a member of John Connor's army, and Google is your enemy.

For every technology invented, there's a way around it.

Just say you don't like it. Leave it at that. If a job requires you to have it during work, turn it off after or lobby to get the rule changed. I don't think people are going to embrace this like cell phones or texting. It's a nice feature, but not a revolutionary new communication method. And really, what would most jobs need this for? Unless you're a courier or driver I can't see of a necessary reason.

Yeah, I don't see this happening.

I keep telling potential bosses that. No wonder know one wants hire me in this wintry economic climate.

I can see a lot of parents using this to keep track of their kids. I can see apps coming out that rely on the info to, for instance, catch your kids speeding at 100 mph in the family car too.
Which is why my son's first car is a 1965 VW Beetle ;)

On the other hand, I'd rather my kid not be dead after getting hit by another car.
 Yeah, they're sturdier than you think, plus with today's crumple zones on other cars, he'll be fine.

^Dude, they're built to 1930s safety standards, convince yourself all you want but there are all sorts of articles online containing the words "the last car you'd want to be in during a crash". I'm just saying I wouldn't put my kid in one.

They're not even that good on gas.

Actually some vehicles already have that. I recall reading a few months ago of a court case involving a kid who was ticketed for going 100 in a 65. His parents challenged it because their GPS is designed with a program that alerted them by e-mail if the car went over the speed limit and they never received an e-mail. The GPS that my parents bought me for my truck has a parental control feature that can be activated to email a programmed address if the truck goes over the speed limit. My new Ram has it as an optional feature as well in its built in GPS.

Eh, my cell phone is eight years old. And that's the way I likes it. :D I seriously doubt it supports this kind of software. Or any software really. It's a phone. :borg:
