Google images

I googled teacake and now I am very hungry.

I did find my original teacake avatar that I have used on multiple forums, but never this one. That's it though.

Ah, there it is. If I search under auntiehill, it automatically separates it into two words. If I force to search as one word, there's my av on the first two entries.

Lots of interesting things pop up during a Google search of my user name. Quite a few images, as well, but none of them are mine. However, I found a few new avatar possibilities, including a movie poster!:techman:

Yes, folks! Apparently I am sooooo popular, they are making a movie about me, Sector 7! It is good to be me.:guffaw:You are now required to bow or curtsey when entering my presence. Oh, wait... it's an upcoming horror film. I now disavow any connection or resemblance to said monster.:alienblush:

Fourth picture is my avatar. Another one is a pic of myself I posted. Thankfully, it's me wearing a mask from Venice, so it's fine.

So I was looking for a new av and went to 'google images' and found myself under 'K'Ehleyr'.

Not just my last 3 avs but a pic of myself and one of my cat. There was also a random goat, a girl on a pony and a naked man in this search :wtf: ~ I have no relation to any of the latter

I'm under the impression that anything on the net is 'fair game' ~ if you post it, it is out there, so I'm not whinging about the photos being there, I was just a little surprised to see it.

Has anybody else tried this?

Are they found from TBBS or photobucket? I just find it quite bizarre :wtf:
That they'd be found from here would be a pretty safe bet, and not really so bizarre.

Since the value of a search engine is to be able to find as many examples of a specified thing as possible, it helps a lot if there's already a sort of map of where all the different things are, and that's just what they do - make maps. Google, Yahoo!, Bing and a host of other search engine companies whose names you may or may not know all use bots—small specialized computer programs known as spiders or crawlers—which work their way page by page through publicly-accessible sites and basically make note of the locations of everything they find, so that those things can be found again if desired. For a site like TrekBBS, that process is probably repeated on the order of every two or three days so as to keep up with new content which is constantly being added.

I'll guess that the picture of your cat you mentioned might be this fine portrait? Since it appears on the page in close proximity to both your username and an avatar image, it's not too surprising that an image search by username might also bring up the other two. If you posted an image of yourself in this or another thread (I seem to recall seeing one or two,) the same kind of association between pic and name and av image can be set up. (The random goat, girl on pony and naked man probably have some other association with the name of the Trek character or with one of the images you selected to use as an avatar and thus have nothing directly to do with you, but the search engine doesn't know the difference since it's just looking for everything which matches or is close to the keyword entered.)

A search for my username brings up a couple of recently-used av images, plus quite a number of pictures I recognize from caption contests in which I've posted entries or from threads associated with actors and/or characters from the 2009 Trek movie. There are also a few pictures I don't recognize—mostly name associations with actual people, looks like—but no real surprises.

I googled WillsBabe and lots of my avatar art, and some photos of my holidays came up. Since I don't post photos of myself to the web (except once), I don't have a probelm. Even if I google the real me, there are no images now I've killed my Facebook account. :mallory:

Ha, if I search for teacake + "star trek" I get my current avatar as the first one and my previous avatar on the same line. Also a whole lot of pics I've posted in the HiJS thread.

And, oddly, kittens fighting with light sabers.

Yes M'Sharak that'll be the one.
Anyway I'm glad I've given people something to do  and we've all found out we are famous.

Kittens fighting with light sabers teacake ? ~ almost beats my naked man, but he did have a very nice bottom ;)

and Sector7 ~ that poster is great :)

If I google my real name I am an American country and western singer :D

Surprised as well to find only one person shares mine, but he's an American who did great public works. Well, one small thing to be proud of namesake-wise :)

My trekname google search was far less interesting; though trekbbs does seem to come up near top of searches, so clearly must have some of primacy in searchbots...

My real name brings up many people, but none of them are me! Ha! And my username brings up nothing to do with me either! Double ha!

:D

But there are 2 of your avs on google images, you do have to do tbbs and your name thou... so you're quite well hidden but I found you

My real life name is the same as this entertainer from the UK, so it's kind of pointless to Google it.

That's kinda cool :) Meant unironically (as per ongoing new thread)

It could be worse. There was a kid named Davey Crockett in my school. Also a Daniel Boone.

Assuming those are genuine family surnames, just proves how cruel /sadistic some parents can truly be. "Hey, we're Boones...I know, why don't we call our Daniel? :) Whatta larf..."

Just typing in Jetfire comes up with normal Transformers related stuff.

But typing in Jetfire TrekBBS The results are quite different. Click the link and you will see what I mean. :alienblush:

I'm sure I have a couple of your tunes on my iPod. If I Google the real me I am a bigwig in the nuclear industry. Not a bad achievement with my grade c Physics O Level.
