i need to move my fan-fic site, as bravenet are instituting a 5MB limit on free sites.

anyone got any sensible suggestions for free hosting with no limits on site size? tried google, but can't make head nor tail of their sites thing.

Try: http://www.t35.com

I have no idea if they are any good, but they claim to be unlimited. You could just google "free unlimited web hosting," like I did. :)

I pay for my hosting so I'm afraid I can't be much more help.

Can't help there I'm afraid :/

I know Lynx and a few others used 110mb after geocities closed. I've heard good reviews from their hosts so far.

I think a lot of us just pay for our own hosting. It's not that expensive, either. You can get quite a large amount of space for $15 a year or less. Since all you're putting up is fanfic, you don't really need any fancy features.

Good free hosting is getting harder to find, luckily paid hosting is quite cheap now. For $5 a month, I get 1 terabyte of space, "unlimited" everything, all the server features you could want and 24/7 support. You could probably find something even cheaper than that like Maxwell said, but I like the extra space and having my e-mails answered within 10 minutes even at four in the morning.

Most webhosts, especially the cheap shared hosting ones, are just reselling the hosting plans of one of a handful of big companies.

If you are willing to pay, check out: http://www.findmyhosting.com. They've got comparisons of several hosting companies with advice on picking a good one.

I use google sites. I found it easy to navigate. Why don't you check mine out as an example?

(Of course mine is primarily text but you said you needed it for fanfic...)

This.

http://www.lunarpages.com offers incredibly affordable, a wide range of options and decent technical support. Pay the 5 bucks a month if being a webmaster is actually something important to you.

^ I second that recommendation. I've been using lunarpages for over four years now, I'm currently running several websites off its simple plan, and have been very pleased with their service. The uptime is very, very good (though not perfect). And whenever I call, I always get through to a customer service rep. Great service, very affordable price, very good support. Worth looking into.

You can get decent shared hosting for under $20 a year, really. Even $5 a month is too much if all you want is a simple site that's going to have low-ish traffic.

Actually google sites looks quite good, guess it depends how much space they give you but, like Captcalhoun, I'm only looking for a new place to put my fanfic series that was on geocities.

Might give it a go :techman:

got a site on google site myself. it gives you 100mb for storage

Sounds good, I'm pretty sure my Star Trek Vesta stories take up way less space than that! Could be a perfect solution for me...

Last spring when I first heard Geocities was closing I moved all of my stuff over to Fortunecity. So far, I really like it. Hope this helps. :)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Just wanted to say that I've gone with google sites. See link below for Vesta to see. So far it seems perfect for my needs...hopefully there isn't something horrible lurking in the small print
