Good Evening, Clarice...

Holy Shazbot!

Rumor is Anthony Hopkins has signed on to play Dr. Hannibal Lector once again, under the helm of director Ridley Scott (who did 1997's 'Hannibal'). Current casting rumor suggest Cate Blanchett will take over as Agent Clarice Starling from Julianne Moore, who took over for Jodie Foster who originated the role.

Now, Hannibal wasn't anywhere near as good as Silence of the Lambs. Yet, it was still Hannibal!

I'll enjoy seeing these characters once more. :techman:

I have no interest in seeing them milk one more film out of this series, and I'd much rather see Ridley Scott focus on other projects (especially The Forever War and Brave New World).

^^^^^^
What he said. I saw this mentioned on IMDB earlier, and I'm hoping it's just an unfounded rumour. It sounds completely unnecessary, plus after the failure of Hannibal Rising and the less-than-favorable response to Hannibal (which was a 2001 film, BTW), is there really much interest in this project -- from the public or from the studio?

I preferred the novel's ending to the film's, which was very disappointing by comparison.

If they do a new film, I hope we'll see Clarice and Hannibal working together as a team, rather than against each other.

What would be worse than Hannibal that he needs to fight it? Zombies? Aliens? Terminators?

Why don't they just cast Holly Hunter as Clarice, and be done with it. Hunter was, after all, the model upon whom Foster's portrayal was clearly based.

This is a regurgitated rumor from 1999 or 2000 when Jodie Foster dropped out of contention for the role and Cate Blanchett was in the running before Julianne Moore nabbed the role for 2001's Hannibal, directed by Ridley Scott. Anthony Hopkins has gone on record saying he's done playing the character during the press for Red Dragon. He even turned down an epilogue-type cameo in Hannibal Rising.

Pinhead would only kill Hannibal if he himself opened the box, which Hannibal is not stupid enough to do. The result would be a match of wits between two people who are unable to directly harm each other. Clarice, however, is stupid enough to open a puzzle box that she finds at a grizzly murder scene, which provides both with motivation for such a conflict.

That's actualy interesting, not a bad idea for a movie. (if they could pull it off)

Stallone isn't done casting and rewriting The Expendables. Why not add Hannibal Lecter and Pinhead to the team? :p

TrekBBS thread on The Expendables

Everyone's in it -- Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Eric Roberts, Charisma Carpenter, maybe Bruce Willis -- why not Hannibal and Pinhead? :)

How about they throw in Alien, Predator, Robocop, Terminator, Godzilla(Gojjira), Rodan, Freddy, Jason, The U.S.S.ENTERPRISE & the M Falcon for good measure?:D
