Golf - Graphite or Steel?

I have a partial set of clubs (PW, 8/9 Iron, Putter, SW, Loft) enough to get me by for Par 3 pitch n putt course I play on weekends where the holes range from mid 50's to 125 yards. However eventually I plan to move to bigger Par 3 courses then to proper courses and of course keep making appearences at the driving range so I want to finish off my club set...

I have a steel PW but my irons are graphite and at first they felt good to play with but PW I prefer to be steel so will buy a new one just like that. I am trying to decide if to buy my 5,6,7 Irons in graphite or steel and was wondering if there are any golfers here and what do you prefer your club to be made out of ?

The set I will end up with is nothing fancy but still a nice solid set of Dunlop Pro Tour clubs with the exception of the putter which will be a Dunlop Sixty Five Blade putter because its made my putting very stable and consistant since playing with it (Gone from 92 shots to 68 since I started playing in March on a 54 course so getting there).

Anyway Steel Irons or Graphite Irons ? and any suggestions for someone assembling his 1st golf set of clubs.

I prefer graphite. I used steel irons years ago and can't imagine going back to them. With the PW, I can see the advantage of having a steel shaft, but with mid-irons, graphites are better for probably 95% of amateur players.

If there is any way you can test clubs on an actual course before buying them, I'd make sure to do that. It's really hard to determine whether the clubs are a good fit for you from just hitting them into a net (or simulator) at a golf store. It can get a bit expensive, but you could also try renting several different sets of clubs at various golf courses to get a feel for what you like. That's what I did before replacing my dirver a few years ago.
