William Shatner will be turning 77 years old in a couple weeks. Yeah, I know it irks some of you that he has lived this long, and is still the biggest star of Star Trek(s). But I have to give the guy props. He has had an incredible career. From the pre-TREK years, to TOS, to the lost decade of the 70s, the TREK movie era, TJ HOOKER and Rescue 911 and his classic quote "GET A LIFE", to TekWar, Price Line, HAS BEEN and Denny Crane.
As for me personally? Several years ago I got to meet Bill Shater at his horse show. My niece is a 'special person' and I decided to take her to the show and camp he would have for the kids. You hear all these horror stories about him, but I ended up meeting him and he was very nice, and very respectful to my niece. We talked for about 10 minutes and it led to our having dinner with him at his home two days later. The guy can cook by the way! When I ribbed him about people believing he had a God-concept in his own mind he just laughed, and changed the subject so fast, I got dizzy. In essence? He didn't deny it. But it was okay. He lived up to hype. He is what he is.
So..my hat is off to you Mr. Shatner. You have taken us along on your ride through life. I have enjoyed you in your good years, and your not so good years. You took the role of a lifetime and became an icon to millions. Keep TREKKIN!
