Gmail sucks lately: has anyone noticed?

I mean really. Sometimes it takes forever to send a message. God forbid I attach something like a 30k word document, and it takes forever to try to attach it. It does not always succeed. I've had gmail crash a lot latley. I'm using the highest speed cable internet connection in my area and I've had better email useage back in the days of dial-up

It's probably just a temporary thing. I've had troubles with Gmail in the past (slowness, having to delete certain cookies every 5 minutes for the pages to load properly, and problems sending/deleting mail), but they were usually resolved in a day or two at the most. At the moment, the web interface is lightning fast for me, though I usually use IMAP to access it these days.

internet traffic is constantly increasing. Some things will hit a bottleneck when there's a spike in usage and parts of the network become saturated.

youtube alone accounts for more kilobytes of traffic now than the entire internet did 5 or 6 years ago.

And the ISP's keep saying they will have to cap speeds ... which is ludicrous because they don't even maintain or expand their own networks, let alone upgrade them, and the number of users and the content people download (by just streaming through youtube on a regular basis) increases over time.

There is one thing in attempting to combat illegal distribution of copyrighted digital data, the real issue arises when you are paying for the best service the ISP offers, and yet you are getting half ... if barely just a third of that service.

It's a plain and simple ripoff to say the least.
Then they blame the huge amount of users that have a tendency of logging in during peak periods and whatnot ...
I get it, but that's why you have to upgrade the technology in order to keep up with the increased demands as you are supposed to, and not pocket the cash for yourselves.

I dumped Yahoo and migrated completely to GMail because it has greater flexibility (ie I can BCC people without having to supply a To: address) as well as Yahoo increasingly sending legitimate mail to the Spam folder. Yahoo has also been changing (and by changing I mean FUCKING UP) their main page with all kinds of popups that are triggered by the mouse roll-over. It's irritating as hell to move around the page and some stupid window you don't care for nor need pops up and takes over a majority of the page. Yahoo mail is slow to open as well.

I have two Gmail accounts, one personal and one for work, and I haven't had any real problems with either one.

*Looks at most popular list on youtube.* God, that is sad.

Remember even YouTube itself is streaming its content at a higher data rate than it used to, the content is available in much higher resolution.

Even if the same number of videos, movies and data were being moved around today as five years ago the quality of data and therefore the amount will have increased.

I'm muddling around in GMail right now trying to find the switch to turn off the annoying feature where it memorizes new addresses and adds them to the contacts. IIRC, that's a feature, correct?

So I should be happy that webcam idiots are dumping their brain feces on the internet at high definition?
