Giving up TrekBBS for Lent - Who's With Me?

I'm not a great Catholic, but I try to follow it as best as I can. With that, Ash Wednesday was today, which means Lent begins this weekend. For those who don't know, followers are encouraged to give up something for the Lenten season.

Given that I feel I have been spending a bit too much time here and a desire to give up something "that was worth it" (in past years, I do not believe I gave up something worthwhile), I decided that the BBS would be an ideal thing to give up.

So, good idea? Am I crazy for seeing if I can go w/o this place for 40 days? Only one way to find out!

I gave it up about week into Lent last year. I managed. I also got a lot more stuff done IRL. I wish you all the best with your efforts.

And a point of clarification, Lent officially begins in the Western Church today, not Sunday.

I actually had a conversation with a priest friend of mine today about that. Apparently there are two schools of thought on that and neither one is really right or wrong.

One says that, yes, Lent does begin today. However, Lent is 40 days. If you count from today to Holy Thursday, you get more than 40.

The other says that Lent begins this weekend. If you count from there, you will get 40 days to Holy Thursday, exact. The theory is that Ash Wednesday is part of the Lenten season as it begins the preparation for Lent.

For my uses, I am going with the latter, since I just came up with it when I woke up this morning, and I wanted to post my intentions. :p

Good luck.

Not being at all religious, and what religious upbringing I had didn't have a concept of giving stuff up for Lent I won't be giving this place up :)

When counting the 40 days of Lent, one does not include Sundays, as their rank causes them to exist outside of the season, although Lenten liturgical law still applies to them.

I think it's a great idea.

In fact, I think all of the religious people should give up Trekbbs for as long as possible.

;)

Maybe; I am just going on with what my priest told me. I figured if someone knew, he would. His word on this was good enough for me. :)
