Giving Enterprise another chance

Even so the color and clarity is better, even if there are some artifacts.

Some episodes look like they were taped off of UPN. So far, I've found the first two seasons to be an utter disappointment on Blu-ray. Originally, I was only going to buy seasons three and four, but I found a deal where I was essentially getting the first two seasons for free.

No I think the audience was more or less on the money with Enterprise. Not a bad show necessarily, but not very good either. I still watch the odd episode here and there because I like most modern Trek but it wasn't at the level of TNG, DS9 or Voyager. What really ruined it for me were all these stupid temporal story arcs. With temporal episodes you just know they're gonna hit that reset button at some point so it was a giant waste of time. Entire seasons were wiped out due to this.

The Enterprise premise wasn't bad per se (pre TOS post Cochrane timeline) but it could have gone in a different direction. It probably should have gone into a simpler direction to match the timeline represented by the show. It felt that at times they tried to do too much, get too convoluted and too ambitious until it just became a mangled mess. Kinda sad because of many of the characters were actually quite likable.

With 29,000+ votes, Enterprise has a very respectable 7.5/10 rating on IMDB. The popularity rating is rising.

The other series: STNG: 8.7. TOS: 8.4. DS9: 7.9. VOY: 7.7. TOS's popularity rating is going downward.

Rotten Tomates a score of 81%.

I can understand why, our grandchildren probably do not see the appeal of a kitsch looking 1960's show in our modern era. The uniforms especially do not help! lol

Enterprise mostly sucked... from start to finish. There were a few good shows but generally speaking it was overall pretty bad.

This was B&B selling some sh*t show to make some serious cash.

I'm a retro revivalist, so that's the kind of thing I seek out the most. Contemporary television just doesn't fit my worldview, for the most part.

The last season wasn't bad.

Everything dealing with the Temporal Cold War and the... oh man, you know you thought a show was pretty bad when you can't even remember the name of a major enemy. The plent that had like three or four different sentient species on it. Those guys. Which, of course, was also related to the TCW.

Enterprise to me was actually my second fav trek series after DS9, while I watched Voyager and TNG they felt rather bland (probably due to the 'perfect' characters they were supposed to be playing) I can't say too much about TOS as I have never seen it in completion (I saw the odd episode but it was typical cheesy old science fiction).

I liked the less reliance on technology and in fact some of the tech enterprise did have I would have reserved for later on ie no phase pistols/cannons for at least the first season and to stick with plasma based weapons.

I believe you're thinking of the Xindi. And I agree.

Actually, from the extras on the Blu-rays and some other interviews, it sounds as if B&B wanted to do a show more along the lines of what fans actually wanted and couldn't because of network and studio pressure. Berman even wanted to hold off on a new show for a year or two instead of creating ENT so soon after VOY.

Edit: Clarity.

Plus They said that the Temporal Cold War story was kind of forced on them by the network, the writers did not want it in at all so perhaps that's why it was written poorly. They were probably hoping that if they did it so badly the network would drop the idea.
