Gimme Back That Filet-O-Fish!

I speak of course of the McDonald's Filet-O-Fish ad where the fat bearded dude is eating the sandwich, and the automated fish on the wall starts singing at him and he jams to it while his buddy comes in and gives him a weird look and he just shrugs and goes with it.

Gimme back that Filet-O-Fish!
Gimme that fish!
Gimme back that Filet-O-Fish!
Gimme that fish!
What if it were you
Hanging up on this wall
If it were you in that sandwich
You wouldn't be laughing at AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!

Is it just me or is this the catchiest commercial EVER??? Every time it comes on I gotta pump up the volume. My better half claims to hate it ... yet a few minutes later I'll catch her humming the tune! There's just something so stupid and goofy and catchy and different about the tune it just snares itself into my consciousness! Do you love it or hate it?

"Gimme back that Filet-O-Fish!
Gimme tha..."

!! MUTE !!

(not unlike the Brit's Crazy Frog debacle of some few years back ;) )

I bet trekker hates it!!

I think its catchy and it works. How many people are talking about that stupid commercial?

It's a hilariously awful commercial, and I agree, the song is so catchy it's like a brain virus.

Plus, I have one of those singing mounted fish, but he sings "Take Me to the River."

I'm not familiar with this particular one in the OP, but in general it's the catchiest and cheesiest and most downright terrible jingles that stick in the mind the longest, and are therefore the most effective at selling the product.

Just look at those Halifax adverts with Howard Brown™ for example. :scream:

Interestingly I found this article on tthe BBC website about advert jingles in general (although it makes specific reference to radio adverts):
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7940524.stm

I found interesting the part that mentioned how the traditional jingle was on its way out and had been phased out in favour of the signature sound of the so-called "sonic brand trigger".

I think jingles haven't completely had their day - they just re-record, not fade away... re-record, not fade away... re-record, not fade away... [Oh shut up - someone]

This ad is all over YouTube with various people singing the jingle. It's short and catchy and easy to remember.

I've seen that guy who comes in to the commercial (not the guy with the sandwich) in a lot of different things recently...a couple of other commercials and I think he's in some upcoming TV episode (saw a guy in a promo that could well have been him).

It only serves to remind me that a living creature was put to death so I can eat. Which in and of itself, I have no problem with, I just don't appreciate joking about it for fun and profit. I'm by no means a veggie, but morally I guess I can't help but make some concessions. On a marketing level, all I know is nothing makes me want to eat something more than anthropomorphisising it.

Much as I love the jingle I'd never eat this thing in a million years. I HATE fish. :p Actually that's part of what's funny about the song, the fish is mad about his brother being killed and eaten before his very eyes! :D

Well, it's fast food, so there's probably very little--if any--fish in it.

And the dude's just bobbing his head and smiling about it! Like, "fuck yeah, I'm eating your brother and you're singing me a song. Life is great!"
