As a long time GR fan I was... lukewarm toward it. I was a fan of GR since like issue 25 of the second series back in the 90s. All the way through the midnight sons storylines. I even picked up a copy of Marvel Spotlight #5 (GR's first appearance) which sadly had its cover fall off when the frame I had it in fell off my wall. So needless to say I was a huge fan, read a lot of the old 70s early 80s GR series, had just about every issue of the GR/Blaze Spirits of Vengance comic series.
So this is my hope for GR2. It takes a tone similar to some of the early 80s stories, where Johnny was still in control as GR, buuuut starts losing control to Zarathos. Starts working in a carnival and traveling around as a stunt rider, while solving supernatural based crimes. It would be kinda interesting to see Johnny actually finding out that he's really a host to Zarathos and starts to feel deep regret for the curse. I could even see the ending being a cliff hanger where you see GR/Zarathos declaring that all innocents who's blood is spilled will have vengance, while meanwhile you see a 'void' sort of place with Johnny screaming to be let out.
Then a third one could see the battle between Johnny and Zarathos, maybe somehow Centurious and the Soul-Eater can come around and seperate Johnny from Zarathos. Z and Centurious battle to the death, while Johnny think's he's free of the curse, but then finds that he can shoot fire with his shot gun. Then... we could setup a meeting with a young danny ketch who's a 'big fan' of Johnny. Then as the movie ends you hear a woman scream and Danny's bike transforming into a semblance of the classic 90s era GR bike and see the flaming head of GR.
Then... if THAT does really well, you could bring in Blade and his Nightstalkers, Morbius and GR and Blaze in a Midnight Sons movie.

But seriously...I thought the first one was not bad. The first time I watched it, it kind of put me to sleep in parts, but then watched it again and realized it wasn't all that bad and actually pretty interesting. Kind of reminded me a bit like the Elektra film. As far as the villains go, at least.
I thought the story for the 1st movie was kinda weak. (Mark Steven Johnson should have known better. The supernatural henchmen didn't work too well in Elektra either.) But I thought that Nicolas Cage brought a lot of interesting things to the role that made it worth watching.
Still, I'd rather see Blade IV or Daredevil II than this.

I'm down for this. I enjoyed the first one. I wasn't happy with Nick Cage's rather happy-go-lucky portrayal of Blaze now and then, but he managed to do enough serious moments to make up for it. The fx were incredible and I loved his bike transformation. It's not in my top five of superhero movies, but I think it makes the tail end of the top 10 somewhere (okay...maybe 11 or 12). 
I've been a fan of the Ghost Rider series for years, paticularly the Johnny Blaze issues. The current series that started back in 2006 brought Blaze back and is the only comic book series I read anymore.
I was really excited when the movie was announced back in 2004/2005. That said, I thought the final product was okay. I'd give it a strong B-. If they can get the sequel up and running I hope it contains more of the elements of the comic books and is rated for a hard "R" like the first one should have been. However as it is supposed to be a popcorn flick that isn't likely to happen.

We're talking Marvel Comics. A "hard R" will limit the audience, which would be bad. I think they could take it a little deaper than they did and would have an excellent story/product.
