Getting Started with comic books.

I'm hoping I'm posting this in right place, but I've decided to start exploring comic books a bit. For whatever reason, I've effectively made it 30 years without reading a comic book. Which I suppose is kind of odd give many of other hobbies seem to dovetail with them. Anyway, after enjoying most of the Marvel movies the past few years, I thought I would give reading some Marvel publications a try. My question is given the rich established history of characters already is where to start. What would you recommend? TIA, and if this posted in the wrong place let me know.

Daredevil is on issue #12 (which, due to #10.1 is actually the 13th issue of the series). Mark Waid has done an awesome job of writing an accessible character who has baggage and doesn't ignore past continuity, but doesn't make it a requirement. I was certainly not a fan of the character and, aside from the issues they gave you with the Marvel figures 10 years ago (I got the 1st Daredevil and the movie one), I had not read a Daredevil comic.

Recently the comic crossed over with The Avenging Spider-Man and the Punisher and I was most impressed with the Punisher. He's a character I never had any interest in, at all. And after reading the crossover, I want to read more. I should have known, since Greg Rucka is the writer and he is great.
