Getting ready to sell my first car . . .

I need some pointers.

it won't pass inspection without work costing more than I paid for it
I don't have the equipment to strip it down and sell parts individually, and I'm hoping to sell the whole thing to someone who can make use of the good stuff on it.

I'm going to the DMV to surrender the plates, and get the title for it since I can't for the life of me find the copy I had

do I have to make a note of what's wrong with the vehicle on the title?
do I even need a title to sell the whole thing for parts?
any other advice?

Depending on how bad it is, you can pretty much either take it to a junkyard and try it that way, or sell it for cheap "as-is", and let someone else know what is needed.

Shouldn't have to do anything on the title, and you shouldn't need a title to sell for parts (depending on age, I guess). Would only need the title as part of the sale if it were going to go back on the road (and again, might depend on age of the car, don't need a title for cars over 10 years old in my state).

pretty much not worth the effort you'll put into it, and it's going to be a pain, for little/no money. If you bought a new one at a dealer, should have traded it in, even if they gave you almost nothing for it.

I've sold several of my cars over the years rather than trade them in. What Scout101 says is accurate.
