She has very serious problems with her hands so that she can't type anymore (at least atm). As you can imagine, she's very frustrated and depressed because this way she loses all contact with her online friends.
So I thought we could perhaps cheer her up by posting greetings, best wishes, get well soons etc here. Every week I'll print them and snail mail them to her.
If you'd like me to relay more personal messages, for example audio or video messages, you can mail them to me (rhubarb *at* sdg3.com) and I'll burn them on CD for her.
And another idea struck me: how about making a friendship quilt for her? This way she'd have a bit from each of us and at the same time it'd be something useful.
Those who can't sew could send a bit of cloth to those who can and pick a pattern - there are gazillions online; just google for "patchwork blocks". This way we ought to be able to get enough blocks for a nice single bed spread (we'll need 12 to 24, depending on their size).
Any woven cotton would work as long as it's thick enough to not be transparent, either a piece of newly bought cloth or scraps left from other sewing projects or bits of a good quality shirt/skirt/dress you don't wear anymore (no jersey, please: it stretches too much).
I volunteer for assembling the squares.
How about it, folks?
