Gerry Rafferty has died

Baker Street is one of "those" songs that takes you right back to the age you were when you first heard it.

RIP.

It takes me back to when I was a little kid, and hearing this song on the radio a lot, then rediscovering it after I got a computer and iTunes. I also love 'Stuck In The Middle With You' as well.

RIP, Gerry.

Windin' your way down on Baker Street
Light in your head and dead on your feet
Well another crazy day
You'll drink the night away
And forget about everything
This city desert makes you feel so cold-
It's got so many people but it's got no soul!
And it's taking you so long
To find out you were wrong
When you thought it had everything.

You used to think that it was so easy,
You used to say that it was so easy,
But you're tryin'-
You're tryin' now!
Another year and then you'll be happy,
Just one more year and then you'll be happy,
But you're cryin'-
You're cryin' now!

Way down the street there's a lad in his place
He opens the door he's got that look on his face
And he asks you where you've been
You tell him who you've seen
And you talk about anything

He's got this dream about buyin' some land
He's gonna give up the booze and the one night stands
And then he'll settle down there's a quiet little town
And forget about everything

But you know he'll always keep movin'
You know he's never gonna stop movin
Cus he's rollin'
He's the rollin' stone

And when you wake up it's a new mornin'
The sun is shinin' it's a new morning
You're goin'
You're goin' home.

Bummer. Got in trouble once for playing Baker Street at the radio station I worked at. In the afternoon we playing "easy listening" music and, according to my boss, that song didn't fit due to the "screaming guitar" in it. *shrug*

One of my favorites. Will be missed.

I know Gerry Rafferty from a completely different direction. In the 1960s he partnered with Billy Connolly - yes, THAT Billy Connolly - to form a folk duo (sometimes a trio) called the Humblebums. They released several albums and if you ever pick up some early Connolly albums that include folksy studio tracks, odds are they're cobbled from the Humblebum sessions.

RIP

Those three came fairly quickly, along with Bill Irwin.

Gotta nip a potential rumor in the bud. This refers to Bill ERWIN, an elderly actor recognized from Seinfeld. Bill IRWIN is a well known comedian and performance artist who appeared in Sesame Street, Rachel Getting Married, Northern Exposure, etc. He's still alive - I checked after being started for half a second when I saw his name.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say, to hell with their orders.

There are not a ton of songs that put me in that "moment" around 11-12 years old. Baker Street is one of them, along with 1 or 2 of the Michal McDonald era Doobie Brothers songs & Kenny Loggins' This Is It.
