George Takei Honored

George Takei will be honored at the 71st annual conference of the American Humanist Association, in New Orleans. George will be accepting the LGBT Humanist Pride Award. Unfortunately George will not be attending the Annual Conference. However, he will reportedly be participating in a video presentation.

Congratulations George.

It's too bad he won't be there, George is a effective speaker, and gets quite passionate on the subject of LGBT matters. His picture, along with the announcement of the conference, is on the back cover of The Humanist magazine for January/February, so his not being present is a resent development. The American Humanist Association's website states "unexpected work obligations." His facebook page hasn't mention anything professional for the month of June.

So I'm not planning on attending myself, but anyone in The Big Easy second week in June, swing by the Sheraton and clap after his no doubt brilliant acceptance speech via video.

Isaac Asimov is also receiving a award, he in person.

Isaac Asimov will have a hard time accepting his award since he croaked in 1992. Perhaps a family member will accept the award for him.

Turns out that Ira Flatow, host of NPR's Science Friday will receive the Isaac Asimov Science award. Fortunately, Ira IS alive.

I had the good fortune to meet George Takei and see him speak at my humble local college, and the guy was a riot. Half the crowd were non-Trekkies as Star Trek was in no way the center of the event, and he had all of us captivated.

Anyone who has heard George speak at a live event has said the same thing. He is captivating and has a knack to keeping the audience engaged.
