Plot: A guy living on the flattest part of the Canadian Prairies, decides that he doesn’t want a paper star as his Christmas Tree topper this year. Instead he wants a REAL star from outer space. After meeting a robot running a space hotel, some RCMP-robot Mounties, the Bell’s Angels biker gang a beautiful space girl, space pirates and finally Santa Claus and his robot reindeer pulling Santa’s cabin on a sled and snowmobile, George returns home to have the star escape, and realize the real meaning of Christmas.
Review: This Canadian cartoon from the mid-80’s is so—-out there. Really, in the 23 minutes that it runs, it throws in sooo many Canadian jokes, that I have to wonder if they forgot any. First George apparently lives in the flattest part of the Prairies, as his house is the only house visible, with no signs of mountains or hills. Then George builds a rocket ship (which is bigger than his house, and has an emergency shuttle) in about 5 seconds from stuff in his basement, including a player piano (although I don’t think he uses the kitchen sink). Anyway, he blasts off to only get sucked into a black hole, that lands him at a space hotel run by a singing and dancing robot. Upon waking George asks Ralph the robot to join his journey (of course later it’s discovered that George forgot to install any weapons on his ship, as George notes he doesn’t even have a pea shooter on-board, so Ralph becomes the ship’s armament).
anyway, the jokes include the pirates having a pirate ship space ship, the police robots wearing RCMP Stetson hats and shoulder lapels, and the police ship looks like a horse. Then later Santa driving a reindeer pulling a snowmobile and log cabin, followed by Santa “visiting” a bunch of billiard balls, including an 8 ball.
plus Paul Anka provides the majority of the songs in this special.
