Gene Roddenberry In A TOS Episode....

Spock's Barber

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I know GR did some minor voiceover work in TOS, for example the anonymous crewman who tells Kirk that there are real turkeys in the galley in Charlie X. It made me wonder.....would it have spoiled an episode if GR had made a cameo appearence, in the same way that Alfred Hitchcock was seen briefly in many of his movies? Maybe GR could have been a background character or a heavily made up alien?

How many people would have recognized him in 1966-69?

I recall he has a voice-over line in one of them where he says, "Communicator, we need more lines to the Impulse Deck." It might have been "Arena."

Somehow this calls to mind that old photo of Roddenberry in a Cage-era uniform that the Encyclopedia and the Chronology depict as Robert April.

I can imagine he could have been fine as a costumed background extra, not unlike how George Lucas wore a fancy suit and blue skin makeup in Star Wars Episode III. No lines or anything. Just, for instance, like one of the ambassadors in the background of "Journey to Babel" or something on those lines.

Likely terrible. Carmel was a trained actor who'd been on Broadway. Roddenberry wasn't an actor at all as far as I know, and a "wild" line here or there is no indication he could.

Would you believe.....since Melvin Belli was so awful as the Gorgan in And The Children Shall Lead, could GR have done any worse in the role?

What was so bad about Belli? He wasn't terrific or fantastic as Gorgon, but was he really that bad?
