^^ It's good to be sure that you know what you want before you buy it! Sounds like you do!
Yeah my biggest problem is really not having the money for it
I adore the Mustang ('05 - '09). I think it's one of the best looking cars out there, but let's face it: if you're not going for a great tuned Shelby GT 500, pretty much everything about it performance-wise sucks.

So yeah, stick to your dream and get a Camaro, you'll love it, you'll have a lot of fun with it and it'll give you memories to last a lifetime. Not to mention that if after years of being a "2010 Camaro craving geek" you change your mind and buy something, -anything- else, you'll probably have a very annoying string of "What if... I should have... If only I had..." going around in your head. That is unless you have had a dreadful experience the first time you got into the Camaro and that managed to actually shatter your dream to begin with.

Just my 2 cents. ;)
Well it goes fast in a straight line :p And I just can't get the GT500, bit too expensive and I honestly don't like the Supercharger whine. So actually all in all the Mustang is probably off the table by now.

I did actually have a great time just sitting in it for the first time, as evidenced here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v192/Emher/Equipment
But as you can probably see there, it has the sunroof and my head was up in the roof.

And that's really my biggest concern , I thought that would be ways better in the non-sunroof version. But as it is I have a pretty small amount of clearance. I love the car, but I also gotta fit in the car. Ultimately it will probably come down to a test drive see if the Camaro works me in spite of that. And I'm so damned honest that that won't happen until I actually have the means to get it
I voted Camaro. The Mustang is kind of a cliche, in San Diego there's an endless stream of douchebags that drive them. At least with the Camaro you're potentially on the leading edge of the new douchebag trend :)
Yeah unfortunately lots of douches tend to drive muscle cars. Pretty much the reason why I rarely go to the Camaro forum I used to frequent.

Fortunately around here the Camaro and the Challenger are a bit more expensive than the Mustang so maybe that will keep the douches away a bit more

I'd take a new 2010 Mustang over a new Camaro, but I'd take a new Camaro over the 05-09 Mustang.

I've owned a 1999 SVT Mustang Cobra and a 2005 Mustang GT, and currently own a 350Z, so I'm no stranger to the realm of speed. It's just not everything, and no matter what you drive you get used to the power pretty quickly.

I wouldn't even consider the Challenger. Fast in a straight line, nice looking, but that's it.

Good insight in your post. Yeah, you do get used to the power very quickly. Going fast in a straight line does gets to be old hat quicker than you'd think. The thing I love the most about my 350Z is more it's handling around curves. Out on countries and even in town, I can fly around intersections. At least for me, that hasn't gotten old where as just simply going fast in a straightline is old hat.

Maybe that's just part of the preference thing of muscle car versus sports car.

wow, this topic could have been started by me.
I agree with pretty much all the "pros" and "cons" but the main sticking point for me is that I dislike the Camaro's interior. The exterior is fantastic, but the interior rubs me the wrong way, especially the dashboard.

The Challenger is decent (I do like the retro look) but seems like kind of a boat and the interior is the cheapest of the three.

Overall I like the Mustang the best (especially inside) but the engine is ancient and really can't compare with the other two. Luckily there are rumours of a new engine coming next year (I hope so). I'm kind of biding my time and seeing how that pans out.

But man, the Camaro sure is pretty.

OP did you pick it up yet? Are you in Canada btw? I have car cost quotes if you need them.

Kinda fun peoples tastes work seeing as I'm almost the exact opposite with the current Mustang

I just need something with more power then I have now (192 hp) and I think the chance to buy a V8 for reasonable money is going away all too soon.

Well...I like going on curvy roads as well, but I also quite enjoy highway driving. Also I think I'm stained a bit by my dads love for muscle cars.

Fun that you should say that since I actually like the interior a whole lot. It seems that you either love it or hate it. I think it's very unique and for me it just works.

I really like that the Challenger is so huge actually, since there's just nothing quite like it. It's a big hunk of the 70s with a modern touch.

There is to be a new engine 2011 I believe for the Mustang, the 5.0 V8 with upwards of 400 hp, and there have been very reports of a twin-turbo V6 option coming as well with 300 plus hp.

^ He's from Sweden. ;)
Indeed I am! Usually have it listed in my location but hey, it's Halloween username time!

I'm nowhere near picking it up, if you mean the car. I'm not able to get once until spring, and that's like the total dream scenario. As for the pricing I'm very aware of it around here. Actually to give you guys a sense of how much it costs here, here's some examples converted back into USD:

Chevrolet Camaro 2SS with RS package: 81 270 USD (569 000 Swedish Crownes)
Dodge Challenger SRT8: 82 700 USD (579 000 Swedish Crownes)
Ford Mustang GT 2010: 62 130 USD (435 000 Swedish Crownes)

And for kicks, a brand new Bullitt Mustang 2008 unused on their lot: 53 560 USD (375 000 Swedish Crownes)
And that's pretty expensive for an older Mustang, you can get one way cheaper then that, so you see why I considered it.

The think to keep in mind with those prices are the the Camaro is still pretty new, prices are dropping and by next year they should be quite a bit more managable, especially if our currency keeps improving. That's why it's even priced near the SRT8 Challenger. It should go down to closer to the Mustang soon.

And yeah that's about what you have to pay for a muscle car/sports car around here. The Nissan 370Z starts at 59 400 USD (415 900 Swedish Crownes) here.

Holy crap that's expensive!

The Mustang GT sells for roughly $30,000 in the US. The Challenger SRT8 is a little north of $40,000 and the Camaro SS is supposed to be about $33,000, but with the dealer markup and all, they're selling for right around $40,000.

Out of curiosity, how much would a Volvo S40 R-Design cost in Sweden? In the US, that car is about the same money as the Mustang or Camaro ($30K - $33K).

It's because our currency is so low. When we voted to move to Euro a few years back the Swedish people in their, no wait let me rephrase that: the majority of the Swedish Fuckheads, aka people, voted NOT to change our currency to the Euro. Something that's now royally biting us in the ass. Hopefully we'll get it changed in a while anyways.

Anyway, the S-40 R-Design goes for 319 000 Swedish Crownes or so, or 45 560 USD. I'd say that's overpriced over there, it's a damned 5-cylinder IIRC. Price that the same as an V8? Wrong IMO.

Thought I might as well let everyone know that unless I drive it and find out I bang my head all the time on the ceiling, the Camaro it is. The Challenger is really nice as well, but the 'Maro just pops in another way.

So hopefully I'll be starting a new thread whenever I can finally get it

Yeah as I said, that's probably where I'm going. Just hope my worries are not actually problems.

Was gonna vote, but you left AMC Pacer off of the list somehow. surely an oversight on your part, I'm sure.
