GE Ecomagination: Augmented Reality

That's actually pretty cool. I see a lot of potential there for special effects in homemade filmmaking. Also, as pattern recognition software improves, it could be used to simplify motion capture, and even replace proxies with images of classic actors in films.

Actually, I see a more commercial use for it. Imagine if the design on your T-shirt, bag, whatever caused an animation to open up on virtual billboards in shop windows as you walk by.

For instance, if you're wearing a Nike shirt, and pass by a Nike store, you could glance in the window and see an animation telling you about a sale inside, popping out from the image of the swoosh on your shirt.

Not only would it inform the person walking by, but it probably would draw a crowd also. They could tie it into a deal where you get a certain percentage off added to the sale price for wearing the symbol, to entice people to walk by wearing the symbol.

^ I figured it was short for "Cypher" so I pronounced it that way, so there. :P

I like your ideas, shivkala. That would be a new market niche that would take off and make buckets of money.

That's a great and nifty effect there. :bolian:

I can also see that sort of thing develop as part of a future alternate reality game, shivkala - print out or wear a certain design, and when it's shown on a webcam or something it then transforms into the next clue in the puzzle.
