*gasp* New Nintendo IP in the works?

You're arguing against something that no one is saying. No one said they hadn't come up with any IPs at all. No one said that they didn't make any games. What seems to piss you off is that people don't hold puzzle games and fitness games and dog grooming games in the same esteem as Zelda and Mario.

You went off on a 300 word rant without taking anything anyone said into context at all. "Nintendo haters blah blah blah".... do you even remember the hype before the Wii came out? Do you not understand why some people are disappointed in it beyond "they must hate Nintendo"? bigdaddy said "My point was Nintendo is like "The Wii will be so different!" and then they canceled the new IPs to mainly make shit sequels," and that set you right off for some reason. Maybe he doesn't like the sequels they made? Maybe he's ticked off that a lot of the promise of the system has been squandered and he's upset that only about a half dozen games on the system are A+ exclusive titles? Maybe he's upset because it's a Gamecube with a motion controller and maybe he's upset that Nintendo was supposed to have learned from all of the mistakes they made with the Gamecube, but instead they simply answered with more casual games, poorly controlled games you wave your hands around to, and more games they could have made for the Cube and he's not interested in those.

I've owned a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, original Gameboy, Gameboy Advance and I'm on my 2nd DS, and I have probably purchased more Nintendo games in my life than anyone I know personally, so give it a rest on that front please.

Bigdaddy's post is pretty clear that he doesn't think Nintendo is making new IPs. I proved him wrong with a list of new IPs they have released for the DS and Wii.
Again just because you don't hold puzzle, fitness and dog games in high regard doesn't magically not make them new IPs. I'm not sure why you aren't understanding this, it's really very simple.
And on the Wii list Disaster Day of Crisis, Xenoblade and the Last Story are aimed at hardcore games. Assuming that this new core IP Miyamoto is working on comes out on the Wii that would be 4, which is a pretty good number considering how small of a company Nintendo is and how many excellent sequels and IP revivals they are putting out this generation.

All I did was post a list of new IPs Nintendo has created in response to bigdaddy. That set you off, I guess you just can't stand it when someone uses facts to prove your view of something is incorrect.

And of the rest of that reads like your standard anti Nintendo troll speech. Nintendo has hit a fairly good balance of hardcore vs casual games this generation (though not perfect, 2008 could of been better in that regard). If you read anything about E3 you would know Nintendo is swinging back toward core Nintendo fans, with their E3 press conference dominated by games their core fans would enjoy, and only 2 games aimed more towards the casual crowd (Mario Sports Mix and Wii Party, but again they both seem like games both core and casual gamers can enjoy, like many of Nintendo's casual games.).

But... the Wii is so different. It's the first dedicated motion-controller games console, and Nintendo have succeeded in appealing their console to a wider audience.

I won't deny that Nintendo's core fanbase has taken a backseat to casual games, but the number of A+ exclusives for Wii at the very least matches those on PS3/XBox 360.

As a long-term Nintendo fan, I'm very happy with the Wii, both with it's games and the hardware itself.

Facts you say?

Xenoblade isn't a Nintendo game, it was made by Monolith Soft. They're first party since 2007, but if you want to get technical about it they're a company Nintendo has a majority stake in, not Nintendo. Perfect Dark and Banjo aren't Nintendo IPs even though they were created by Rare when they were first party. M$ owns them now. Disaster: Day of Crisis is a Monoloth game too.

Last Story was made by Mistwalker, a company started by former Square employees with the backing of Microsoft. They made Last Odyssey for the 360 and are a multi-system developer. That means they're not Nintendo either.

Nintendo games are published and developed by... wait for it.... NINTENDO.

And don't try to turn this into an "exclusives" argument, we've been talking about Nintendo games here, not games you can get on the Nintendo that you can't get on other systems.

Games developed by Nintendo for the Wii:

Animal Crossing: City Folk
Everyone's Common Knowledge Television
Kirby's Epic Yarn (2010)
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess & Skyward Sword (2010)
Link's Crossbow Training
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Sports Mix
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
New Play Control! Pikmin 1 & 2
New SMB Wii
SM Galaxy 1 & 2
Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus
Wii Music, Play, Party, Sports and Sports Resort
Mario Strikers Charged

I'm sorry, but if Nintendo owns the IP then it's a Nintendo game, even if they have another studio work on it. Xenoblade and Disaster are made by a Nintendo owned studio and are Nintendo owned IPs. It's hard to say if The Last Story is at this point, though I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo owns the IP. I guess we'll find out for sure when the next Smash Brothers game comes out.

I know the difference between an exclusive and a Nintendo game. Epic Mickey is a really big new IP coming to the Wii, and I didn't include it on my list despite being a Wii exclusive because it's not a Nintendo IP.

By your logic Halo ODST and Halo Reach aren't Microsoft games even though they own the IP since Bungie was an independent developer when they made them.
Crackdown 1 and 2 aren't Microsoft games even though they own the IP since Realtime Worlds and Ruffian Games aren't owned by Microsoft.
Ratchet and Clank and Resistance aren't Sony games even though Sony owns the IPs since Insomniac is an independent developer.

From what I understand about Rare their IPs like Perfect Dark and Banjo were a special case, Nintendo gave them to Microsoft as part of the deal to buy Rare since they had a good working relationship with Rare (and still do, since Rare has released several DS games after being bought by Microsoft). Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft insisted on getting the rights to Rare's original IPs as part of the deal.

Is it really a fair criticism to call a new IP unsuccessful or unworthy if it doesn't reach the success of Mario and Zelda? Those are two of the most beloved franchises there are, and most companies are lucky if they create one IP that even comes close to those heights.

I think a new IP for Nintendo has to be something that appeals to a broad base, utilizes the Nintendo brand in a unique way so that it's memorable and lastly be an idea that's a little crazy.

I vote for a Ragdoll as the main character; his loose limbs playing right into Wii's motion controls. His nemesis? A gamemaster type who loves puzzles, challenges, etc; and have the whole thing set in an Alice in Wonderland type surreal world.

Could be cool. Then again, the last unique Nintendo character like that was probably Glover, and that one sucked ;)
