Gary Sinise in Talks to Play Leonard "Bones" McCoy!

IGN has also been told that Oscar nominee Gary Sinise -- currently seen on the small screen in CSI: NY -- is in talks for the role of Dr. McCoy, the ornery and politically incorrect ship's physician aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. McCoy's prickly relationship with Spock was the basis of much of the humor and humanity of the original 1960s series. The late DeForrest Kelley played "Bones" on TV.

And another source:

According to the studio source... Sinise (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13) would play Dr. McCoy (originally portrayed by DeForest Kelley), the ornery and politically incorrect ship’s physician aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.

What do you guys think?

I think he would be perfect for the part!

Who's with me?

I'd much rather have him than Urban, but I'd be surprised if they take so sharp a turn after all we've heard.

I'm assuming that he will be playing "Old McCoy" along with Nimoy as "Old Spock."

will this be for the scene you plotted.

Hey, I just report the news.

Don't shoot the messenger!

I'm really shocked about how many posters think Sinise shouldn't play McCoy because he's a racist.

I mean, was it ever established onscreen whether Leonard McCoy was a racist? With comments like "That green-blooded son of a bitch!", it wouldn't come as a huge surprise, I guess.

Um, these are both dated February 26, 2007, which is almost 8 months ago. This isn't even yesterday's news.

I agree with our colleague Mister Cogley on this choice, even though it may yet be "old news". Gary Sinise certainly "looks" the part, and he does have the "good ol' boy" mannerism when called upon to do so.

Then again, I'd rather see a "dream team" of Gary Sinise and Ed Harris in some sort of Trek project...we need a "Right Stuff" feel to these sort of things do we not?

I've been saying Sinise should play McCoy for years. But isn't he a bit old for the role as reimagined?

Cogley is never wrong, people. I mean, he's a lawyer, for cripe's sake! How often do they make mistakes, huh?

If he says that IGN says that Gary Sinise says that he's in talks with a guy who says that he works for J.J. Abrams in order to play Dr. McCoy, who am I to bother to click the link and verify the info?

SINISE FOR THE WIN!

Cogley, you're a despicable troublemaker! Hope flared in my heart... until I clicked through, that is.

Didn't they just sign Karl Urban for this role?

Yep.

Rumor has it that Urban is less racist than Sinise.

But that's probably why he'll be playing the younger McCoy.

Sinise will likely be playing the older, hardened, more racist McCoy.

Actually they could probably put sinese in the TNG makeup and have him cameo for Bones too, :D
