Garlic Bread!

Plecostomus

Commodore
So...

One-Legged Wonder-Wife and I went out for dinner to the family diner. Her grandfather made me some garlic-bread.... Bread soaked in garlic-butter with garlic chunks all over the top held down by cheese.

My wife... she is horrified that he would even CONSIDER serving something like that... apparently other people order it as well.

Well as I sit here in exile after brushing my teeth twice (i would a third time but the toothbrush has a restraining order now) I'm pondering other variations of the recipe.

With garlic bread, much cheese experimentation can be done. Multiple cheeses. Many cheese. Lots of cheese. And....onion?

Agreed.

Anyone else here ever eat a whole clove of garlic, just because?

No, but I have spread lawry's garlic butter on just about everything that it made the slightest bit of sense to try. Some worked out well, others not so well.

Every once in a while, I'll make some garlic bread or get some from the local store, throw some pepperonis on, and melt some cheese over them. A good garlic bread doesn't need pizza sauce (but a little of that is okay, too).

Now I'm wondering how a garlic bread with a little grilled chicken and some asian sesame-garlic sauce would taste. Gonna have to experiment soon.

Garlic bread should be exactly like that. Really drippy so it runs down your chin:drool: I feel really disappointed if it's too dry :(
I have wondered about some nice big slices of buffalo tomatoes on top, fresh black pepper... hmmm

Mom's garlic bread was the best...garlic butter on both sides of bagget/French bread slices. Under the broiler till toasty on ONE side. YUM!!!

Minus the cheese, I like garlic bread a lot, but it's not one of my regular foods, just an occasional treat. But I don't like it if it's dripping in oil. Really, it's the only oily food I like besides peanut butter.

I prefer it made with freshly baked bread, ripped into chunks, spread with garlic paste and sunflower oil, and then grilled or baked until it's crunchy and toasty.

Yes I can eat raw garlic cloves, but I prefer them cooked. :)

One other thing about garlic is that after eating it, for a couple of days, one of the scent components comes through my skin pores. I tend to notice it on my shoulders and my upper arms while I'm in bed. So I have slightly scented skin for a couple of days, which must be a metabolic thing. But it's not an offensive scent, it's more like fresh wild garlic leaves than the pungent cloves.

Mmm...nom nom nom nom

I won't get any work done today. Probably wouldn't have anyway, but now I can blame Plecostomus! :bolian:

I love garlic. But garlic toast dripping with butter and soggy with cheese is not my favorite. I prefer something simpler that features mainly the garlic.

I toast slices of really good crusty French bread under the broiler (doing both sides), then rub a clove of garlic over the top of each slice while it's still hot. Then I brush on some extra virgin olive oil and add a small sprinkle of sea salt and some freshly-ground black pepper. That's it.
