Even if there´s still a lot of time before Atonement is released, Memory Alpha - upcoming ST novels - says, that Garak is likely to appear in Atonement. It makes me even more enthusiastic. Is it already confirmed? :cardie:

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

SCENE: Highest Halls of Federation Power

Bacco: "I'm just glad we got that catom business all under wraps without anything too awful happening".

Abrik: "Is Ambassador Garak supposed to be in here, Madam President?"

Bacco: "What?"

Abrik: *Points*

...

Garak: "Oh, come now. When I was fourteen I infiltrated Enabran Tain's porn stash. This was nothing in comparison".

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Yes, she confirmed it in her interview on the release of Acts of Contrition on Trek.fm. She also said she specifically contacted Una McCormack to make sure that what she was planning to do with Garak was okay by her.

.

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Very much so.

Should be entertaining to read.

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Elim would phrase it as "erotic fiction archive", though. ;-)

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

I heard this news on trek FM's podcast with Una McCormack. It will be interesting to see Kirsten having a scene with Garak in her Voyager novel.

Which makes it the more interesting. Kirsten Beyer novels are actually the only ones I read in English when they are released. Amazon.de is quick to deliver the books, quicker than they offer the Cross Cult novels. So Voyager is the only show I´m up to date .

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Interesting...

So, Atonement really happens before the Assassination. One of those rare instances wherein book publication date doesn't match the 'current' in-world timeline At least based on the spoiler above, the conversation seems to have happened after the Catom Arc ended.

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Love that she checked with McCormack first. It's so much better when the authors are all on the same page about what's going on with a character (unlike LaForge's rank/love life). This is a bit different the Voyager books being earlier in time than the rest of the novels are currently, but still I really like the collaboration there. Can't wait for this novel!

The conversation you mention was just that poster making something up for a laugh. There's no spoilers or actual story content there.

But...

(Not sure this actually needs to be in spoilers, but I'll follow your lead...)

We are still within the first year after the Borg invasion portrayed in the Destiny trilogy. All of the Nu-Voy books so far have taken place within one year of "real" time. The events of The Fall take place at least three years after the invasion, so there is no question that this is definitely before Bacco's assassination. The various series are not running at the same pace.

simonandschuster.com has a cover for the novel, but it is labeled as not final:

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Cool. In the truest sense of the word. Janeway looks severe, but determined.

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

It may not be final, but I like it. Simple but clear with what it's projecting. I hope the 'not final' element is just some Photoshop touchups and not like completely changing the design.

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Yes, they can keep it. I like Janeway´s belt. :)

That is a great cover. At first I thought the painter forgot the combadge, but she's in the in the Manticle's brig.

Kilana2, I've been reading your posts with interest since you joined these forums three months ago. And I don't want to be pedantic, really. But just as a hint, you can write the English apostrophe (as in don't, ain't, Janeway's) by pressing Shift + # on the middle-right of your keyboard instead of using the French accents. I mean no offense by any means.

I don´t take it personal. Thanks for the advise. I need some getting used to it, but I tried it in a word document.

I will never ever correct someone here making mistakes/errors. Even if it is Khan misspelled Kahn. In another thread (the Enterprise size thread in General Discussion) we decided to leave pedantries behind. Some people are not native speaker. I have experience with students from foreign countries speaking neither English nor German very well. But we managed to communicate with each other. I´m glad you can´t hear my pronounciation. I know I use mostly American spelling, pronouning it British. Normally a no-go.
Being afraid of making mistakes kept me from joining this forum a long time. I tend to criticize others far to often.

On the other hand: we can discuss the use of a comma (or not), if the omission would change a meaning/content.

So, let's try the apostrophy:

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

That's interesting. On English-language keyboards (at least American ones), the apostrophe ( ' ) is the lower-case item on the far right key of the home row, and if you shift it you get a quotation mark ( " ). (I think the British call them inverted commas.) I hadn't realized German-language keyboards would do it differently. But then, doesn't German use a different kind of quotation indicator, something like << >> ?
