Gamer trailer (Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, Milo Ventimiglia)

Aragorn

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Gamer trailer via Dark Horizons

Co-starring Alison Lohman, John Leguizamo, Terry Crews, Amber Valletta, Keith David, Ludacris, Sam Witwer and Kyra Sedgwick.

From the writers/directors of Crank and Crank: High Voltage.

I guess it's basically a different take on Death Race/The Running Man/The Condemned, which seems less inspiring than on initial impression. Plus coming out the first week of September doesn't speak highly of it.

Interesting concept. I'll probably see it at some point, although I may wait for the DVD.

From the trailer alone, I don't get a good feeling about them being able to deliver on the concept. It probably sounded like a cool idea at first (like Dollhouse or My Own Worst Enemy), but not really something that makes any sense when executed. But I could be wrong.

Hmm. Gerard Butler and Michael C. Hall---I love those two guys. Not sure about the premise; sounds a bit like a slightly more complicated Running Man retread.

I'll wait and see. I'm sure Hubby will want to see it at some point.

yeah Running Man meets DeathRace 3000 remake. Not a big fan of the guys who brought us Crank and Crank 2: High Voltage, but 2 talented actors in Michael C. Hall and Gerard Butler, so how bad can it be?

You know what I'm actually intrested in seeing this. But I think I'll wait for the DVD.

If they let Michael C. Hall murder Milo Ventimiglia in the most horrible imaginable way, I say this movie should automatically sweep the Oscars! :rommie:

Sorry, Star Trek.

It probably sounded like a cool idea at first (like Dollhouse or My Own Worst Enemy), but not really something that makes any sense when executed.

It looks to me like they've hit upon the way to pull this concept off without stumbling - by making the "dolls" criminals that "nobody cares about," they avoid the pitfalls that led to convoluted logic from Dollhouse and My Own Worst Enemy.

What convoluted logic was that?

That we would give a frak about Caroline considering that she's an idiot who was responsible for the mess she got herself into. Who's left to sympathize with? Her body? There's nothing in there to sympathize with! Whatever "Echo" might have been, it was either an uninteresting remnant of Caroline (the idiot, and therefore still not deserving of our sympathy) or just a bunch of left-over former personalities, who aren't even real. Nobody to root for in a show = nobody wants to watch. And that's why the ratings fell off a cliff.

Okay not convoluted so much as just dumb. The convoluted one was My Own Worst Enemy: that the gubmint would bother to take an agent and give him a secret identity and not tell the secret identity about it, thus ensuring he's a sitting duck.

Maybe that's mainly dumb too. Okay, what Gamer has going for it is that the story can work without anyone being a moron or the audience asked to care about idiots. Asked to care about criminals, okay. That could work. As long as they don't pretend to be victims, blech.
