That cliffhanger was so frakking mean, I had to break my oath not to spoil myself by looking up what happens next.

But seriously, Ned...
Littlefingers offer sounded quite reasonable.
Even Cersei gave you a way out...

This picture describes more or less what happened to Ned :)

He's not too good at listening.

Instead of Winter is Coming I think the Stark's should adopt a "We don't listen" motto. Seems to be their family trait.

Excellent - Great episode, some wonderful scenes. In particular:

- Tywin's introduction
- Jon's swearing of his oath
- Drogo's speech

I already saw it on HBOGO, but I look forward to seeing it again tonight.

I think Ned Stark listens, but he's too stubbornly honourable to actually take anyone's advice. He's a northern man who can't bring himself to play the same game as the southerners, and it's his downfall.

Great episode, incidentally. Khal Drogo's speech was epic, and I have to admit I got chills when Jon and Sam recited their oath (I reiterate from an earlier thread: I love the whole Night's Watch\The Wall story). On a related note, the weirwood looked really cool... I don't remember getting as clear a look at the one in Winterfell back in the first episode.

Endgame for Ned, and he had so many easy ways either out of King's Landing or with himself as defacto King.

Course, I have to wonder how long Littlefinger would have tolerated Ned on the Throne before selling him out as well.

But Ned never does what's easy, he always tries to do what's right, or at least what he thinks is right. Unfortunately for him, nobody else shares his sense of honor or idealism.

Another Excellent episode. It was good to get back to Jon and the Wall; that's my favorite storyline in the books. Khal Drogo's speech was epicsauce. And I liked that they actually had Renly come out and tell Ned that he wanted the throne for himself. It makes his fleeing King's Landing seem less random than it did in the book.

It may have been smarter for Ned to just tell Renly to contact Stannis so they could combine forces with him to fight off the eventual Lannister counter-attack, accept Littlefingers' help and act as Lord-Regent-Whatever until Stannis arrived and then tried to put Stannis on the throne after dealing with the Lannisters.

That would still be honorable, wouldn't it?

But Renly didn't want Stannis to become king. There's no way Renly would have combined his forces with Ned except as a means to secure the throne for himself.

But since Renly knew that they'd have to end up fighting 60,000 Men and he can't rally those numbers himself (nor can Ned get his own forces from Winterfell down there in time) and the forces Littlefinger can muster wouldn't be adequate he would need all the help he could get and Stannis would be the best source.

I mean, how DID Renly hope to hold off Tywin and Jaime's eventual attack? With Cersei and Joffrey as shields?

They would have had Joffrey and the Queen as hostages. They would also have been behind strong walls.

Getting juicy!

Although I didn't get the whole roleplay chick on chick over LF's speech, and Dany seriously does not look pregnant :) but otherwise oh me oh my these people know how to screw up!

I can't believe there are only 3 more episodes now.

Yet another great episode! Only thing I didn't like was the brothel scene. Gratuitous, overly long, and pointless. We already (briefly) learned about Littlefinger's duel with Brandon Stark when we first met him. This was just here to fill the weekly sex quota. Oh, and my two favorite characters were MIA too, Tyrion and Arya. But anyway, on to the good stuff. This was probably the episode I was looking most forward to because here's where the shit REALLY hit the fan and it didn't disappoint.

Great to finally see Tywin. Never really took him for the deer skinning type, but I suppose it was more interesting to watch than him and Jaime just standing there talking. But where's his famed muttonchops?

As others have said, loved Drogo's speech. He literally had more dialogue here than in all the previous episodes combined.

The stuff at the wall was just fine. Too bad we never got to see Jon convince Aemon to take Sam on as steward. Guess it happened some time during the last two episodes. ;) And zomg, they finally named Ghost! Now if only they'd do the same for poor Grey Wind, Summer, and Shaggydog (who we haven't even seen yet.) Not to mention Rickon, who we saw ONCE and is now pretty much the nBSG Boxey of this show. :guffaw:

Great King's Landing stuff, and fantastic final scene in the throne room. Every bit as tense as in the book. Poor Ned, I feel for ya. Like him, I'm always the good, just, honorable guy whenever I play RPG's but sadly it doesn't do him a shred of good here when no one else cares about doing the right thing (Well, cept Barristan maybe, but not much he could do there.) LOVED the final shot with Ned and Littlefinger. :techman:

Not really spoilers, this, it's more just background information that the show hasn't really been able to give thus far. Still, consider this a warning if you're twitchy about getting extra info. :p

Anyway, keep in mind that Renly is still on Westros, and Stannis is not. With his charisma, it's much easier for him to raise Baratheon troops, and those of House Baratheon's bannermen. Add to this his relationship with Ser Loras Tyrell, and the Tyrell's rule Highgarden in the South. Together, those two houses are arguably the match of the Lannisters.
