Galileo filming minature photo showing starboard side

I can't seem to get the Galileo script to show by manipulating contrast or brightness, not sure it is there or not but would be interesting to see how it may have been applied on the right side (if at all).

I don't think it's there. But I'm glad this picture and story finally came to light.

It's hard to tell, but I think the script is visible at the front of the Starfleet pennant. I guess we were never meant to likely see that side onscreen or if we did the details were never clear.

But thinking about it I think we might have seen that side onscreen in one or two flyby shots. The small filming miniature was meant for long shots so the fact the miniature isn't an exact copy of the fullsize mockup would likely not be noticed. The viewer's imagination would fill in the blanks so to speak.

I also think I may see the starboard script (I know for example the Galileo script was on the front of the minature, and it is hard to see that one for sure also). It makes total sense that the ship would have been detailed on the Starboard side in case some day it might have been filmed (though I beleive the model was apparently only filmed for "The Galileo Seven" and than apparently never again).

The original shuttlecraft decal sheets, a few of which survived and were auctioned on Ebay over the last year indicated that 3 sheets would be required to fully "decal" the minature, as there was only a single "Galileo script" and "ENTERPRISE" block lettering on each (but 3 are needed; one on each side and one on the front). One sheet contaned all of the required red penants interestingly, but only the black ship registry for a single side.

Just an awesome photo; too bad it's not in color. The right side was filmed and seen in "The Menagerie" part one.

Ah...thanks for the correction. Wish the resolution was juuuust a little better too, so we could clearly see the font differences in the "ENTERPRISE" block lettering (which followed more from the pilot font used on the Enterprise with regards particularly to the "R"s) that existed between the minature and fullsize mockup.

BTW, can anyone figure out whose signature that is?

I think the signature may be Walter Jefferies or maybe it's no one from the production (unless the photos was processed and then taken back for a signature). On the miniature shot from "The Menagerie"; it looks like they may have placed something over the lettering (same colored tape or something similar). I doubt they would have painted over or removed the decals.

On another subject; boy that kid does not look happy. I would be freaking out!!

No, "The Menagerie" footage is not in "The Galileo Seven." There is other footage of the Galileo that does not appear in "The Galileo Seven" but most likely all of the Galileo footage was filmed at that time and use later (with the exception of the side view we see in "The Doomsday Machine") The landing with various window configurations comes to mind.

I'm pretty sure it's Walter Jefferies. It was a techie at Film Effects of Hollywood who had a camera on hand. I'd say he developed his film, took the print back to work, and gave it to his coworker at FEoH, the boys' father.

Then the father got Jefferies to sign it, and stored the picture away as a memento of his own. That's why the son never knew about it.

And I think Jefferies would definitely autograph as Walter to match his screen credit, rather than "Matt."

Wow, that is a great find... and answers the last of the questions I had about the studio model (it is good enough when adjusted in Photoshop to show the placement of the script "Galileo"). I knew from studies of the existing screen caps where the script was, but not the orientation. This was what I came up with in January of 2015...

I had a 50/50 shot at how it was on the original, but I got it wrong...

Not that this would have been a big issue, but I'm glad I hadn't rushed to print the new decal graphics based on the original studio model's decal sheet. There were a ton of small changes from my original graphics...

This is just one more alteration needed to to my original decal sheet.

On the subject of the signature on the photo... we have a ton of examples of Jefferies signature to work from, it doesn't look like it is his.
