Gógin Class Spacecraft Carrier

I could place even more fighters on the deck but that would cost too much time and my computer would start to lagg.

There is an old adage in design, "Form should follow function". Which means that before you make something look appealing make it fit it's function. Don't just draw fancy shapes. Try and reason why something is shaped the way it is. Why do you need the big red super structure? why not just have entire ship be contained in a thicker version of the grey part. Why not have the fighters just land directly on the red surfaces? Why is the red structure off to one side? Why is the grey area shaped like a knife blade? Think more about why you are creating a certain shape in the context of what you are drawing.

It's even harder when making your own "race". Everyone knows what a federation ship should look like because the design language is well established. With a new race you should start out defining the language a little before drawing the ships. Build some rational behind the shapes. Ask yourself questions . Why are the warp nacelles for this race shaped the way they are? What is the "look" they use for the main hull and why? Then start designing ships based on this design language. The ships will look better and more cohesive as a whole.

1. Are the Maraxxians something other than bipedal? I don't know quite why, but just from looking at this ship, I'm getting the impression that they might have somewhere between 6 and 12 limbs.

2. Do those fighters launch up-and-away from the ship, with some sort of embarkation-disembarkation mechanism on the bottom? Or, are Maraxxians capable of surviving exposure to vacuum for an extended period of time? Because unless one of those is true, I'm having a hard time seeing how an open flight deck would work. Transporters? A force-field covered deck? Both seem unwise for various reasons.

1. Maraxxians are just bipedal. Why did you have that impression?

2. No, Maraxxians are not capable of surviving that. Instead, an enormous containement field is active around the landing area. When a ship/fighter must pass it the forcefield isn't deactivated, but a small hole is made just big enough.

^If the Maraxxians are this trustworthy of their containment field technology, why do they have walls on the rest of the ship?

1. The shape of the ship seems like it is trying to copy the shape of a weapon. Said weapon would be impractical for a being with only two manipulator appendages, but I can see it being used almost like a bat'leth by something with 4 or more. The hook on the end reminds me of a beak, so that combined with the first part makes me think of a squid or octopus-like being.

2. I'm just not sure that a species with sufficiently powerful and reliable forcefields to do what what you're describing (that would require a LOT of power), and the degree of control over said forcefields needed, would need fighters at all! Just channel some of that immense power through a long range field generator (and through a hole in your own shields) and generate energy "objects" for enemy ships to run into. Or just fully crush them. And keep your crew safely inside the ship.

People sometimes underestimate how much power a force-field requires. And are you taking into account that there is going to be regular maintenance that the fighters need? Those fields are going to have to be up ALL the time, not just in battle situations, so crew can reach the fighters. Unless the fighters aren't actually parked on the deck when not in use, but are brought into those internal areas that appear to be marked off with yellow. In which case, what is the "flight deck" for? Space ships don't need to roll up to speed like Earth based fighter jets do, so a flight deck for that is worse than useless - it's something else you could run into. And it isn't needed for landing, since spacecraft are going to move pretty precisely under normal circumstances, the carrier can just throw a tractor beam (which is just another forcefield, after all) onto any ship that's coming in in an uncontrolled manner.

Hey - it just occurred to me: Are the Maraxxians a conquest-type species? Like the Klingons, for example? 'Cause if so, maybe they have a race of pacifistic 10-armed squid-like beings that they've conquered and are forcing to build ships for 'em. ;)

I'm a big form/function guy as well, so this isn't appealing to me much either. It does look awfully like you made a kitchen utensil or fish knife, then decided to call it a carrier. If it's a bipedal species, they tend to be symmetrical and most of their designs would be to (we suppose). If it were a species like the Moties (1 big right arm, two small left arms) then we could see them building lop-sided stuff without thinking about it. You are free to come up with your own design language for the species of course, no one can say its wrong, but even our slightly lop-sided carriers today are designed around clear principles dictated by the function of the ship.
