Mom's in the forum.

Those who were here to play, bug off or I'll boot you off.

Those with "hot button" issues; they don't belong in here. We have a forum specifically calculated for that.

Those starting posts strictly to say the new TV series will suck: Better back that up because there's little out there to say whether the series will be good or bad yet, and *I* will be henceforth scrutinizing these carefully. While not turning this into a cheerleading forum, I won't let trolling in under the guise of equal discussion.

Those inclined to behaviors are now on notice. I have no tolerance for behaviors.

The rest of you, thanks for reading this, have fun and carry on.

What are hot button issues? I'm not familiar with that term.
I assume things that will lead to bad arguments?

I think she means Neutral Zone subject matter...as described in an old version of the board rules, this would include "serious debate" of "contentious issues and hot topics, such as life, religion and morals, politics, philosophy, and major world news."

think of it as topics that are brought up in bad faith, i.e. not to have an engaging, civil debate about a difficult and complex subject, but simply to stir up shit

Basically.

Merriam-Webster defines "hot button" as "an issue that causes people to feel strong emotions (such as anger) and to argue with each other." It appears that the term was first used in 1975. (source)

Now that we have a named series, could we add Discovery forum space under Star Trek TV (after Enterprise)?

I would imagine they are waiting until we have something real to discuss, and not just rumor mongering and wish lists.

"Where's the fun in that?"

Sorry had to. Fair enough, though. But.... Many of the threads here are now Discovery related. If I were a mod or forum owner, I'd want to organize. Just sayin...

That was just a guess on my part. I have no idea of what the Lords of The Realm are up to these days. :D

I hate to be that person but what if Discovery itself actually deals with hot-button issues?

What if they have an episode that's an allegory to Black Lives Matter? Or the Discovery runs into a planet where the leader is modeled after Donald Trump?

Not if, WHEN. What happens then is that Trek will once again be what it was meant to be

A bad show that uses allegories that are as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face? I'd rather not have that.
Sorry got cut off. I mean that no single format is for everyone and there are plenty of properties that exist as just entertainment.

But do show that use allegories or address some relevant social topic still exist? It isn't a 80's/90's thing with tv shows that sometimes broadcasted a "very special episode"?
