Future Clone Wars DVD releases...

Apparently WB is going to release a series of "Best of"-like single disc sets of a handful of episodes at first (apparently for parents of young fans), but later this year they will release the full Season One set for serious collectors, according to TheDigitalBits.

The big title news today is that Warner and Lucasfilm have officially announced the DVD release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars - A Galaxy Divided on 3/24 (SRP $19.98). Here's the bad news: It's only a "best of" disc, offering just four key episodes Ambush, Rising Malevolence, Shadow of Malevolence, and Destroy Malevolence. But don't fret, 'cause here's the good news: Lucasfilm has confirmed that a complete season DVD box set is coming later in 2009, and (the best news) it will be released on Blu-ray Disc as well. Here's the relevant text from Star Wars.com

Meanwhile, for fans eager to own the entire first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Lucasfilm is in the midst of producing a multi-disc boxed set that is expected to debut later in 2009. Full details of the first-season DVD boxed set, which is also planned to mark the first Blu-Ray appearance of the series, will be announced later this year. The collection will include substantial bonus material that is currently in production at Lucasfilm, including explorations of the behind-the-scenes creation of the hit series."

Props to the folks at Lucasfilm for letting everyone know this in advance. Not so very long ago, they might not have given fans this kind of advanced word, and it's a nice (and very much appreciated) touch.

Makes sense. Seems like a lot of child-geared cartoons go this route.

Yeah, they're apparently doing this for the new animated Spectacular Spider-Man series as well.

But speaking of which, how many episodes are supposed to be in Season One of the Clone Wars?

^ I'm not entirely sure. I remember Wookiepedia saying this show is also going to have 100 total episodes.

Are you sure because the live action show is supposed to have 100 episodes. 100 episodes seems like a lot for a redo series of a couple dozen mini episode show fro ma few years ago.

^ According to Wookiepedia (links to a video interview on IESB) there are 30 episodes confirmed with 100 having been planned.

According to the Star Wars Blog the live action series has 100 planned and 400 proposed.

400? That right there proves those numbers are out of someone's ass.

I would guess both will have 100 episodes then.

400?!!

That would be like 15+ years worth of episodes.

Yeah, but this is Lucas, and he can afford it, because people will lap up the merchandise, just like they always have, and he knows it.

I know they initially said back in 2005 that the live-action would be 100 episodes. Now they're saying it starts as one show then splits off into four different shows and could run much longer. Perhaps that's where the 400 number comes from.
