Futurama: Season 6 details (Spoilers)

  • The 1st pisode (1acv06) of Season 6 picks up right where (Into the Wild Green Yonder) movie left off
  • Sadly for many people, the series will feature a "literal" rebirth of the characters
  • The original concept of the 1st episode was to take place in new universe where they were taken as prisoners, but Matt Groening said that it should be a rebirth instead (please don't boo Matt)
  • The 2nd episode (2acv06) will feature Zapp and Leela in a Eden-like planet (we knew that, but not the Eden-like part)
  • In the 4th epsiode (4avco6), the Hyperchicken will make appereance (we all love the Hyperchicken haha!)
  • The 2nd and 4th episode will be kinda more filthy than if they had been on FOX. "Comedy Central censors helped them push envelop of language" (that rises the question, what if they wanna put those 2 episodes on FOX later on)
  • The Space Pope will appear in Season 6. It involves Bender grave robbing in vatican.
  • There will be a "Anthology of Intrerest III" episode (the one with the "What if" machine)
  • According to David X Cohen, we will elarn more about Nibbler and his powers, like the "Partial Nibbler satisfaction"
  • In an episode, we will see the future of the iPhone, that it will be implanten directly in your eye

I wonder about the "literal" rebirth of all the characters. A 2001 Star-Child gag, perhaps? An in-universe explanation had Fox forced a recasting on them? Or is it just a cheap way of retconning away Fry and Leela getting together at the end of the fourth movie?

I hope Anothology of Interest III will give What-if scenarios to characters other than the usual three.

While I was very disappointed with the DVD movies, I am very willing to give the new season a chance. I think Futurama is better suited for the 1/2 hour format.

I know I am very much looking forward to the Space Pope episode.

So does the relationship of Fry and Leela regress to what it was before Wild Green Yonder?

Probably. As I said the first post, I'm betting that this rebirth business will be used as a reset button. Either that, or the show will just plain ignore them getting together.

Is the space pope reptillian?

That shouldn't be a problem; they can just blur or bleep stuff out if they must.

A ridiculous case in point - My nephew was over the other day, and had it on "Wizards of Waverly Place" over on Disney. There was something that kept bothering me about the screen resolution, and it finally registered with me that Disney had blurred out the mom's cleavage because they apparently thought her neckline was too low.

He damn well better be! :p

This is very exciting. I can't wait to see the Bender grave robbing the Space Pope and more What If stories.

It's most likely going to suck like almost every show that that ever come back.

However Anthology of Intrerest III is always nice, but where is Evil Robot Santa?!?!

I really wish the horrible movies were a different universe and that at the end of the fourth movie the characters actually travel to our universe.

You must be the most depressed person in the world, everything seems to let you down ;). Only a casual fan on Futurama so I might get round to watching season 6 one day though if I was FOX I would of brought this show back long ago.

Sweet! Another Anthology of Interest! However, I'm a bit bummed about the prospect of the Fry/Leela relationship be reset/ignored. I really want to see it developed.

I'm admittedly sceptical. Futurama is one of those, well, all round awesome experiences - it's very consistently funny. Can it just be jumpstarted now, so many years later, and waltz back with hard-hitting laughs rather than lackluster, awkwardly colourless half-chuckles like the other Matt Groening show currently does?

Still, I thought the movies had their moments and a major flaw of them was simply the fact they're movies - Futurama works a lot better in a half-hour format than a two-hour one.

So... yeah. Huzzah!

They'll reset/ignore it because they presumably find it restrictive to them as sitcom writers. I don't know, maybe because it puts the kibosh on any 'Leela/Fry gets a date' episodes, and maybe because they don't want to do relationship humour?

Then again maybe they won't and will find comic potential in the relationship. I'm honestly apathetic either way.

Comedy Central brought it back, Fox doesn't give a rats ass about the show.

Also after the four very VERY sub-par movies I have no faith in the writers.

But I'm sure there will be a couple good episodes out of the 26 ordered.

Plus I want more evil robot Santa!!! :)

Wait a minute, why is it no one has said this yet? Good news everybody!
Professor: "Good news, everybody!"
Bender: "We're back baby!"
Zoidberg: "Hooray for Zoidberg!"
Nixon: "Nixon's back! Harrrrruuuu!"
Hermes: "I'm happier than a green snake in a sugar cane field!"

There. Was that catchphrase-y enough for you? :p

Futurama Point has the episode preview up now.

Professor: "You mean you don't remember?"
Fry: "Nope, nothing. It's like when I passed out in college, except no one drew magic marker penises on my forehead."

Well, I'm pleased. Futurama is best in the shorter form; the movies were just too long and the humor wore thin. I'll give the new season a go.

Yeah, I too am hoping that the upcoming season will be funnier than the films, which were really disappointing except for the last one. I think the main problem is, it's really tough to write jokes for a full-length film. A 22 minute episode can flow much better, anyway.

I believe the writers are different from the Simpsons ones, and hopefully it stays that way. I was a huge Simpsons fan until more recently, when it just got horribly stale. Now I haven't watched new episodes in like 3 years.
