Frozen Ipod

Hi everybody, in the last couple of days my girlfriend's Ipod 160Gb Classic has refused to do just about anything apart from display a message saying 'low battery, charging, please wait', ever since she charged it up from her Ipod wall socket adaptor, something she does quite regularly. At the time she unplugged it it was showing the 'battery fully charged' icon, but every menu on the ipod was empty, like it had never been used before, while there was over 10Gb of music on it. We've tried letting it sit there charging for hours at a time on both our Ipod dock, her laptop, my desktop, the wall adaptor - which causes the apple logo to show up now -, pressing menu and the centre button - which supposedly resets it - but still when I plug it into her laptop neither Windows or Itunes detects it's there, all it does is display that damn error message.

I would prefer not to send it away as it's less than a year old at this point, because I know we'll end up getting stinged for fixing what is essentially a NZ$420 paperweight now. Any help would be appreciated!

I once had a similar problem on an 80gig iPod Classic. I fixed it by letting it run out of juice, so the device would power down completely. When I turned it on it was working again. I can't remember if I had to perform a restore on it though.

Cheers for those links, I'll check them out. Yeah, I've had my own Ipod freeze up on me numerous times, usually with the back light and all still on, ensuring that it dies in a few hours or so, but the Ipod in question doesn't even turn on when it's not plugged into a wall socket or a computer.

All I can say is, luckily Ipods are the only Apple products we own, because otherwise I would've been driven mental by now. Our Ipods make Windows look stable by comparison, quite a feat, really!

You could take the battery out.... Oh wait, Ipod. Apple is afraid of letting users play with batteries.
