Hidden Frontier Productions are pleased to announce our first original Science-Fiction project!

Download the first two teaser trailers for "Frontier Guard" from our download mirrors here!
Mirrors or YouTube

The project is our first venture outside the Star Trek universe and will film sometime in 2009 for release later that year. The project started out as a Tom Corbett - Space Cadet fan-film but early on it was decided to make the show original and free of the confines of that universe.

It is our hope to secure financial backing and donations to make the film the best it can possibly be.

Frontier Guard is set in the 25th Century, by which time humans have spread out into the galaxy.

But our history leaves many secrets to be found.

Conner Blake was abducted in 1957 at the age of 12 and found frozen on an abandoned Ark hundreds of years later. Why was he chosen and how will he play into humanity's conflicts with its space-faring neighbors ?

Our story begins when Conner Blake is accepted into the Frontier Guard Academy and is immediately assigned to the worst training vessel on campus, the starship Polaris. His past quickly returns to haunt him as he struggles with his identity and his fellow Academy cadets aboard the Polaris.

Certainly looking forward. I like how your starships are basically the universal library symbol for science fiction brought to life!

Re: "Frontier Guard" Original Sci-Fi project announced by Hidden Front

I'm really not entirely sure how you guys do it. Odyssey, Helena, Beta Shield, Federation One, and now this as well......

Re: "Frontier Guard" Original Sci-Fi project announced by Hidden Front

-- Like the ships.
-- Looks like a fun little series
-- Not a 100% keen on the concept, but if you guys live up to what I've come to expect from you the execution will probably sell me on it.

Good or bad, it's great to see something other than yet another fanfilm. Good luck, all the best of fortune guys, and knock 'em dead.

Re: "Frontier Guard" Original Sci-Fi project announced by Hidden Front

Well, I'm looking forward to this one, and have decided to watch some of your older shows. I like them so far, although I have one thing to nitpick at. It's probably improved, since so far I've only seen the first episode of Odessy, but the dialog seems strained. From an actors point of view, a few more rehersals before production might help.Try to remember, you are playing normal people. Well, normal from the characters point of view.

Re: "Frontier Guard" Original Sci-Fi project announced by Hidden Front

I wouldn't call the first episode of Odyssey "old". Is it even a year at this point since that started?

Now, the start of Hidden Frontier, *that* is Old. And it's improved massively since then.

Re: "Frontier Guard" Original Sci-Fi project announced by Hidden Front

Just when I thought these guys couldn't hook me with anything else, the bastards do it again! Looking good, I look forward to it. Odyssey has become my favorite of your productions, but this may even top that. Nice to see you guys breaking out of the Trekverse.

On the subject of "investors" - do you have a distribution model for this that will enable you to effectively market it on the Internet it while insulating you as much as possible from online piracy?

Re: "Frontier Guard" Original Sci-Fi project announced by Hidden Front

Glad to see there is interest out there! Ultimately we just want to tell a good story and have a great time doing it. But after our proof of concept film is made, who knows what might happen? I'd be a liar if I didn't say we'd be thrilled to get a SciFi or a CBS interested. We wouldn't be adverse to a Fox or a Showtime either. Hell, we'd take a call from Here! or TLA if there was financing involved. What film maker wouldn't take any funding sources available to get their baby on the screen?

But ultimately we're just planning on making it on our own with the best production value we can afford, and release the movie for free to be spread far and wide by any means until such a time as an interested party comes along.

That has been talked about quite a bit. Though piracy concerns of the pilot film are limited to people trying to sell it when it's offered for free. We currently have those issues with our Trek shows and have been very successful in combating those types of pirates. There are too many what-ifs to go into now for concerns about piracy beyond the initial film, but we have had considerable discussion of a distribution model should we decide to market and distribute further episodes on our own.

Cheers,

Rob

^ And remember: if it doesn't say "Micro Machines," it's not the real thing.

:wtf:

Interesting sound design on that first trailer. What's the musical soundtrack?

Re: "Frontier Guard" Original Sci-Fi project announced by Hidden Front

Sounds like an interesting premise. Admittedly, it does have a Buck rogers kind of feel to it with the kid being taken and he wakes up several hundred years in the future. Granted the delivery of said child is different. All the best with this latest effort.

This looks promising! I look forward to seeing how this develops -- and to watching the final product. Trek fan films are great. Original productions set in original universes are greater.

One question I am looking forward to learning more about is the funky spinning circle things and how they relate to propulsion. That is really tripping, especially when they spin up really fast.

With all the awesome stuff Hidden Frontier has coming out, is there one place I could find all your upcoming release dates? I'm trying to stay on top of these for our Sci Fi Surplus podcast so I can announce things a week before they come out.

Hi John,

Hidden Frontier.com is the place to get release info for all our projects for now. We have a newsletter you can subscribe to as well that will keep you informed.

Thanks for thinking of us!

Cheers,

Rob

The "chat" schedule on hiddenfrontier.com is about the only place that mentions dates. Episodes are usually released to the chat audience first on a wed and released publicly the weekend afterwards.
