Fringe Season 4 Anticipation Thread

We are just two weeks away from the fourth season premier of Fringe - finally! I have been asked by Aragorn if I would mind doing the hosting duties for the weekly commentary, to which I gladly accepted, as this is my favorite show.

So to get the ball rolling, I'd post this as a reminder to folks that the 23rd is the date, and to discuss our various ideas about where the show is going before the big day.

As I type, the Missus is ordering the Season 3 DVDs online...

Some wacky hijinks go down, Peter returns with his childhood hockey coach,Coach Bombay, in a nod to Doctor Who Walter eats fish custard, Astrid gets a new kicky hairdo and Olivia buys a bright yellow tracksuit! Oh and Gene the cow is probably mooing in the lab.

The scary thing is, none of that seems to be too far-fetched at the moment!

I'm so looking forward to Season 4. Can't wait to see where they go with Peter and the rest of the gang.

I love Fringe.

I anticipate they will screw around for many episodes undoing the abolition of Peter, so that Walter will have a genuine emotional relationship that really matters. Peter's character has been assassinated several times (as if once wasn't enough,) but Olivia's Mary Sue-ishness means none of her relationships have any value. And Walternate's meanness just isn't that interesting.

Of course, they can't win. If they bring back Peter quickly, they'll openly undo the climax of the last season.

I also anticipate that there will never be a remotely plausible explanation of Peter's disappearance.

I heard somehow that Peter will return to Fringe after the first two episodes but that he won't be the same as he was before.

As in he's a totally different individual (like a Peter from a third universe) or that he's simply been changed by whatever experience he went through?

^ "I don't know who invented this remarkable food, but I have decided I must have it for dinner every night! Possibly for lunch as well. Asteroid, where are you? We're going shopping!" :D

Er, anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to Season 4. I just got my Season 3 DVDs today, so I've got two weeks to re-watch Season 3!

Procutus: all I know is that Peter comes back different but the characters still don't know him and the impact of his lack of presence in their lives still remains. So it's a very complicated situation.

Wow, that sounds very interesting indeed. Thanks Joe for the information. I am really eager to see this all begin to unfold in a few weeks.

Yeah, this is the way to keep the actor on the payroll but prevent the storyline from being resolved too quickly.

Am I the only one who thinks that there has to be more to Astrid? Perhaps she is not as nice and innocent as we have been led to believe?

I am happy that Seth Gabel (Lincoln Lee) has joined the cast full time, and that David Fury (BTVS) is on staff now. :techman: Very interested to see how they will handle the never-was Peter storyline.

This really isn't a spoiler per se, but I've just read that Joe Flanigan is going to be one of the guests on the premier ep. Very cool, I loved him on SGA.

I also agree with theenglish that there's got to be more to Asteroid than meets the eye. Just not sure what.

I've always had this feeling that Astrid has been secretly working for the Observers or some faction that we haven't seen yet.

Until it was revealed otherwise, I was beginning to think that the First People were in fact, another faction we hadn't seen and that Sam was one of them.

Guess I was wrong about that!

They're good at that. Hell, the whole thing with Peter not ever existing in either universe was the biggest WTF moment in Fringe history!
